About The Position

The Director of Annual & Sustainer Giving leads strategy and execution to grow, retain, and deepen relationships with donors giving under $5,000 annually through personalized, segmented, and mission-centered communication. This role oversees annual giving initiatives, mid-level donor cultivation, direct response programs, and recurring giving efforts that collectively generate significant revenue for BCH ministries. The Director is responsible for increasing donor lifetime value, improving retention and recapture rates, and developing sustainable pathways that move donors toward deeper engagement and major gift potential. Working collaboratively with Advancement and Marketing, this role ensures annual & sustainer giving strategies align with BCH’s mission, values, and Christ-centered culture while delivering measurable revenue growth. The Director serves as the strategic owner of BCH’s annual giving, donor retention, and recurring giving initiatives while partnering closely with the Marketing team for execution of digital, creative, web, email, and promotional components of donor engagement campaigns. Success in this role requires strong cross-functional leadership, project management, and collaboration across departments. The primary objectives of this role are to increase the number of KMY (3+ consecutive year) donors and grow BCH’s recurring giving program, creating a stronger, more sustainable donor base that fuels long-term ministry impact.

Requirements

  • Personal commitment to Jesus Christ and alignment with the statement of faith of BCH
  • Minimum 5–7 years in fundraising, annual giving, direct response, nonprofit marketing, or related field; experience in faith-based organizations preferred.
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-channel donor programs, annual giving campaigns, or mid-level donor portfolios.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong ability to interpret donor data, track performance metrics, and use insights to improve outcomes.
  • Excellent writing and messaging ability tailored to donor audiences; experience with segmented communications preferred.
  • Working knowledge of donor databases/CRM systems, Microsoft 365, and digital fundraising tools.
  • Must be able to manage deadlines, coordinate multiple initiatives, and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must meet the general requirements for employment with Baptist Children’s Homes of N.C., Inc.

  • Submits an individual Statement of Faith, Acknowledgement, and Pledge as part of employment requirements.
  • Ability to operate standard office machines such as copier, computer, fax, calculator, etc.
  • Ability to work within Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams software programs.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, including managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Regular contact with colleagues in all departments, as well as with outside individuals and groups; should represent Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Inc. in a positive manner.
  • Contacts outside of the agency where proper handling of situations is of utmost importance as the agency’s image could be affected.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and ability to draw conclusions.
  • Must be able to talk and hear both in person and on the telephone.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures concerning confidentiality, including payroll, budgeting and HIPAA regulations involving all aspects of personnel information, which if disclosed, would have adverse internal and/or external effect, and could result in termination of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow revenue and engagement among donors giving under $5,000 annually.
  • Lead the KMY (3+ years giving) strategy to increase lifetime value among annual and mid-level donors and improve donor retention.
  • Serve as the organizational leader responsible for growing BCH’s KMY donor population and recurring donor base.
  • Monitor donor performance indicators including retention, recapture, upgrade rates, average gift size, donor lifetime value, and recurring donor growth.
  • Establish pathways that encourage donors to deepen their involvement with BCH ministries.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of mail appeals in coordination with Marketing and Advancement leadership.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop compelling messaging aligned with organizational priorities and ministry impact.
  • Ensure appeals are segmented appropriately to maximize response rates and donor experience.
  • Evaluate campaign performance and recommend improvements for future efforts.
  • Establish and grow a monthly giving program to increase predictable revenue and donor retention.
  • Develop strategies to convert one-time donors into recurring supporters.
  • Monitor program performance and implement enhancements to drive year-over-year growth.
  • Lead the planning and successful execution of organization-wide giving days, year-end campaigns, and matching gift initiatives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts to maximize participation, revenue, and donor engagement.
  • Analyze results and identify opportunities for improvement and expansion.
  • Cultivate a portfolio of mid-level and rising donors ($1,000–$4,999) through personalized outreach, stewardship, and engagement opportunities.
  • Provide tailored communication and relationship-building strategies that deepen donor connection to BCH’s mission.
  • Identify donors with capacity and inclination for greater giving.
  • Identify potential major-gift prospects within the mass donor pool using giving history, engagement indicators, and data insights.
  • Coordinate strategic hand-offs to regional Advancement officers for deeper cultivation.
  • Maintain communication continuity to ensure a positive donor experience during transitions.
  • Partner closely with the Marketing team to develop and execute donor-facing campaigns across digital, print, web, email, social media, and advertising channels.
  • Serve as the strategic owner of annual & sustainer fundraising initiatives while collaborating with Marketing on creative development, campaign production, and promotional execution.
  • Provide donor insights, segmentation strategies, campaign objectives, and performance expectations to support effective marketing execution.
  • Coordinate project timelines, priorities, and deliverables across Advancement and Marketing teams.
  • Foster strong collaboration that ensures fundraising initiatives are aligned with BCH’s brand standards, messaging, and ministry priorities.
