Position Summary Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of AI Engineering leads the development and operation of AI-powered systems supporting pharmacy operations, customer experience, customer support, and healthcare workflows. This role is accountable for translating complex healthcare and operational problems into scalable, compliant AI solutions, including automation, predictive models, and intelligent decision support. We are seeking a Director of AI Engineering to partner closely with Product, Pharmacy Operations, Customer Success, Customer Experience, Compliance, and Security to ensure AI systems are safe, explainable, and reliable in regulated environments This position plays a key role in shaping both near-term execution and long-term AI strategy across the organization., ensuring alignment with organizational goals, operational excellence, and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
  • 10+ years of software, data, or AI engineering experience
  • 3+ years leading AI/ML or advanced engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience deploying AI systems that support operational decision-making or customer interactions
  • Knowledge of applied AI/ML systems in production environments; NLP and automation technologies used in customer support and operational workflows; cloud-based AI platforms and MLOps practices; and data privacy, security, and model governance in regulated industries (Required)
  • Technical and people leadership of AI/ML engineering teams skills (Required)
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills with non-technical healthcare stakeholders (Required)
  • Ability to design scalable, reliable AI systems for operational and customer-facing use cases (Required)
  • Ability to translate pharmacy and customer experience problems into AI solutions (Required)
  • Ability to balance innovation with risk management and compliance (Required)
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while writing or reviewing documentation
  • Must be able to work on a computer for the entire shift
  • Must be able to attend virtual meetings with cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in AI, machine learning, computer science, or related discipline (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations, prescription workflows, and medication fulfillment processes; healthcare compliance concepts (HIPAA, PHI handling, auditability); and responsible AI and explainability techniques for decision-support systems (Preferred)
  • Vendor evaluation skills for healthcare AI tooling (Preferred)
  • Ability to budget and roadmap ownership for AI platforms (Preferred)
  • Ability to influence executive-level strategy related to automation and AI adoption (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages AI engineering teams delivering production AI systems for pharmacy operations and customer support
  • Defines and executes AI strategy and roadmap aligned with healthcare, pharmacy, and CX business priorities
  • Oversees design, deployment, and monitoring of AI/ML systems (e.g., workflow automation, NLP, predictive models)
  • Partners with Pharmacy Ops, Customer Success, Customer Experience, Product, Compliance, and Security to ensure AI solutions meet regulatory and quality standards
  • Establishes governance for model validation, explainability, monitoring, and incident response in regulated use cases
  • Evaluates emerging AI tools and vendors specific to healthcare, pharmacy, and customer engagement
