About The Position

The Director of Adult and Family Medicine (“Director”) will function as one of the primary adult medical service providers for Mary’s Center. The Director’s role is to direct and coordinate clinical services, research, and medical educational programs for the Adult medical service line, in collaboration with senior clinical staff. The Director is additionally responsible for clinical onboarding of new hires in their relevant field and clinical quality assurance of team members. The incumbent either performs the job duties or oversees their performance when delegated to other Center staff. This position will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for clinical guidance and their respective Administrative Medical Director for administrative guidance.

Requirements

  • Must possess a M.D. or D.O. degree and a current licensed to practice Medicine in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
  • Must be Board Certification/Board Eligible in Internal or Family Medicine.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of practicing Internal or Family medicine in a community health clinic environment and/or experience in working with immigrant or economically-disadvantage populations in a maternal/child healthcare setting highly desirable.
  • A thorough understanding and knowledge of patient confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulations are essential.

  • Non-physician providers may be considered for this role after a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and leadership for all clinicians and medical staff caring for Adult patients
  • Plan, implement, administer, coordinate, monitor and evaluate clinical services operations and functions affecting Adult patient care and clinician training/instruction
  • Identify care gaps for adult patients and collaborate with Nursing and Outcomes to improve patient services and outcomes consistent with the mission, values, and resources of Mary’s Center; where necessary, participate in grant development
  • Work with the CMO, Medical Director, other clinicians, and administrative personnel to assure a high quality of care
  • Strive to promote use of resources in ways that will maximize the delivery of services within the resources and policies/procedures of Mary’s Center
  • Participate in collaborative meetings in representation of the Adult service line
  • Work with fellow discipline Directors and Subspecialty leads to develop collaborative practices in promotion of high-quality care
  • With CMO, review and update as necessary, Mary’s Center’s clinical policies and procedures to reflect current best practices and evidence-based medicine
  • Serve as point of reference for HIT projects affecting practice of medicine for Adult service line
  • Develop eCW workflows to optimize clinical care in concert with HIT, Outcomes, and colleagues
  • Orient new providers to protocols, procedures, and best practices for Adult service line
  • Collaborate with Outcomes Department and Clinical Director of Quality and Outcomes to assure that adequate clinic-and-site-specific Quality Improvement (Chart Reviews, PQRS and Meaningful Use) activities are performed, performance deficiencies addressed, and support processes for continuous quality improvement
  • Collaborate with Director of Clinical Services and Vice President of Nursing to inform on operational and medical projects requiring input from Adult Medicine
  • Develop educational program for clinical staff serving adult patients at regular provider education meeting breakouts, to include review of clinical guidelines and new research in direction of clinical care, dissemination of updated Mary’s Center policies and protocols, and informational speakers from relevant community organizations and Mary’s Center programs
  • Maintain and distribute active list of available CME opportunities in DC/MD/VA, particularly those that apply to mandatory topics for Maryland and the District of Columbia
  • Participate in applicant interviews where appropriate
  • Participate in Adult service line on-call schedule
  • Perform other duties determined as necessary by the CMO and/or the CEO/President
  • Complete 90 day chart review for new hires in advance of 90-day review with Administrative Medical Director and, as necessary, participate in 90-day review
  • Direct peer review program for adult service line as per clinic policy, to include chart reviews and case discussions
  • Perform more extensive evaluation of individual clinicians by request or as directed by policy/protocol
  • Collaborate with individual clinicians and Administrative Medical Directors to develop plans to improve areas of deficiency as needed
