About The Position

The Director of Accounting is responsible for performing professional-level accounting functions, including auditing, analyzing, reconciling, and preparing financial reports. This role plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions, operations, and activities of the accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and general accounting functions. The Director is responsible for monthly accounting and annual reporting, prepares closing entries and schedules, and works closely with auditors during the year-end audit. The position also involves a commitment to uphold the Seminary's mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in accounting principles or related work experience
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software, corporate principles, and financial analysis
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Strong organizational, regulatory, and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Easily adaptable to change

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Have or develop a detailed understanding of non-profit accounting and reporting

Responsibilities

  • Plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions, operations, and activities of the accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and general accounting functions.
  • Responsible for monthly accounting and annual reporting.
  • Prepares closing entries and schedules.
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close.
  • Work closely with auditors during year-end audit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Direct reports include Accounts Payable Technician and General Accounting Technician.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, managing personnel, planning, assigning, delegating, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
