About The Position

The Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting (“Director”) position at HomeXpress Mortgage (“Company”) is a senior level management position. The Director/Controller is responsible for the Company’s accounting and tax department functions, all GAAP, external and internal management reporting, oversight of the Company’s external audit process and coordination of all tax compliance and planning, implementation of a functioning effective and efficient internal control framework, and assisting with and/or performing financial forecasting and budgeting for the Company.

Requirements

  • Experience and working knowledge of GAAP and accounting in general as well as for mortgage banking activities including fair value and derivatives.
  • Seven plus years of mortgage banking (or similar) industry experience.
  • CPA license required.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-oriented nature.
  • People-oriented with a demonstrated inclination for service excellence.
  • Demonstrated strong communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products, including PowerPoint, as well as various accounting applications and platforms.
  • Organized and able to create and effectively manage multiple timelines and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the Company’s accounting operations and personnel.
  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting position policies in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure that the accounting operations are functioning at a high standard and that there is transparency in the financial results and the presentation thereof. Such results are to be concise and relevant.
  • Maintain an effective accounting framework where all transactions are timely and accurately posted, with sufficient reconciliation and documentation.
  • Structure an effective and efficient internal control framework and ensure the implementation of such, as well as the appropriate maintenance, testing and remediation of any deficiencies.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial information and presentation, including the analysis of key performance indicators.
  • Design and develop accounting system improvements, including system integrations to enhance workflow.
  • Collaborates with other Company employees to achieve the Company’s financial goals and objectives. Monitor the Company’s financial performance on a pro-active basis.
  • Work with external audit and tax personnel to be proactive as to the timely completion of GAAP audits, as well as accomplishing tax planning and compliance.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the accounting and tax activities.
  • Develop meaningful data analytics and accounting metrics for management to assess the financial operations of the Company.
  • Assist and/or lead the financial budgeting and planning processes, including the clear communication of such to Company leadership.
  • Monitor and implement new GAAP standards and provide assessments of such to management.
  • Identify and analyze potential risks and opportunities in the Company’s accounting operations.
  • Mentor, develop and manage the accounting operations staff.
