About The Position

The Director of Academic Achievement and Success Coaching provides leadership, supervision, and evaluation of the advising activities and interventions of the Success Coaches and contributes to student success and retention within the university. In addition to the day-to-day leadership of the success coach contributions to advising, the Director must coordinate with each school and academic department and work collaboratively across campus to support student degree attainment. The Director is also responsible for proactively infusing best practices and current research in student retention and persistence.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Guidance and Counseling, or other college student-related field, human service, or health-related area required.
  • 5 years of professional higher education administration experience preferred.
  • Significant experience in academic advising and or Student Success Coaching at the college level, including experience supervising other advisors.
  • Strong understanding of university policies and procedures related to academics, registration, and student conduct.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of college student development and academic issues
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the institution, with a particular focus on collaboration with Deans, Associate Deans, and faculty
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, collaborative, and supervisory skills
  • Skilled in organization and coordination of complex projects
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to interpret and implement university policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively develop, direct, and implement the strategy for Student Success Coaches' work, which includes their contributions to academic advisement, ongoing assessment, and recommendations for relevant policies and procedures, collaboratively with Academic Affairs. This work will be completed in alignment with the University’s strategic plans connected to student success, retention, and degree planning.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs to ensure Success coaches, graduate assistants, support staff, and faculty advisors are properly trained on the use of advising practices and technological tools to support advising (e.g. Navigate360, courseleaf, Banner, etc.)
  • Provide supervision, training, evaluation, and leadership to Success coaches assigned to distinct populations to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Manage the coordination and day-to-day operation of success coaching and registration.
  • Ensure the consistent production, collection, and reporting of data related to the assessment of advising and coaching practices, success coach performance, etc.; analyze student data to identify trends and areas for improvement in coaching practices and implement new coaching and advising initiatives as needed
  • Provide direct coaching of students in one or more distinct populations including assistance with course selection, major declaration, graduation planning, and academic progress monitoring.
  • Provide individual success coaching to students with complex academic situations or identified as non-traditional students
  • Manage the following on a semester/annual basis: upload of the student success teams and GRIF courses in Courseleaf.
  • Responsible for the collaborative administration of academic success courses including FYE, mid-semester courses, GRIF 150, and GRIF 201 with colleagues from Academic Affairs.
  • Serve as Chair of Cura Personalis Team which is designed to respond holistically to students concerns involving in the areas of academics and financial; run weekly meetings during the academic year to resolve and track cases.
  • Supervise full-time professionals and Graduate Assistants.
