About The Position

The Academic Success Advisor provides structured, policy-based academic advising to support student progression, program completion, and successful transfer. This role assists students in understanding program requirements, selecting appropriate courses, navigating degree pathways, and making informed decisions about academic options. The Advisor ensures students remain on track for timely completion by monitoring academic progress, interpreting degree audits, and facilitating connections with institutional resources. The advisor’s work is non-instructional and focuses on guidance, compliance, and academic navigation, rather than skill development or teaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and the ability to support students from diverse backgrounds.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in interpreting academic requirements and policies.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Effective collaborator with faculty, student services, and leadership teams.
  • Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a student-centered approach.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in academic advising, student records, or higher education administrative functions preferred.
  • Academic advising certification (e.g., NACADA) within two years of hire is recommended.
  • Ability to interpret academic policies, degree audits, and transfer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students individually and in groups on course selection, registration, sequencing, program requirements, and academic policies.
  • Conduct degree audits and monitor student progress toward completion, identifying unmet requirements and necessary adjustments.
  • Guide students in understanding credit requirements, prerequisites, progression rules, long-range plans, and graduation eligibility.
  • Educate students on the implications of academic decisions (e.g., add/drop, withdrawal, program change, part-time vs. full-time status).
  • Provide accurate interpretation of curriculum maps, catalog information, and accreditation-aligned program requirements.
  • Assist students in exploring transfer opportunities and understanding articulation agreements and credit transfer policies.
  • Consult with transfer institutions regarding degree requirements, admission processes, and transferability of coursework.
  • Support students in planning for smooth transfer by aligning course selection with long-term educational goals.
  • Tracks transfer data
  • Identify students who may be off-track academically and initiate outreach to provide timely guidance.
  • Refer students to appropriate support services (e.g., financial aid, accessibility services, registrar, career services, experiential learning) when needs fall outside advising scope.
  • Maintain consistent communication with faculty, program directors, and student services to ensure coordinated support for student progression.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential advising records, degree audits, and student files
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees as assigned.
  • Recommend improvements to advising processes, communication tools, and workflow efficiencies.
  • Remain current with institutional policies, program updates, regulatory requirements, and transfer pathways.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to academic advising and student progression.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
