About The Position

Axis Hand & Physical Therapy is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and results driven Director of Occupational Therapy to lead and oversee the growth, performance, and operational excellence of our Occupational Therapy Department. This director level leadership role is responsible for the strategic direction, financial performance, staffing, clinical quality, and operational management of all occupational therapy services across the organization. The Director of Occupational Therapy will work closely with executive leadership to develop and execute departmental initiatives that support exceptional patient outcomes, employee engagement, practice growth, and organizational profitability. The ideal candidate is a proven clinical leader with strong business acumen, a passion for team development, and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care.

Requirements

  • Current SC Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) license in good standing.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive occupational therapy experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership or management experience overseeing clinical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, financial performance, and operational metrics.
  • Strong knowledge of outpatient rehabilitation services, clinical operations, and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Multi-site leadership experience.
  • Experience in hand therapy and upper extremity rehabilitation.
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential preferred.
  • Proven success leading organizational growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the Occupational Therapy Department.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and growth initiatives aligned with the company's mission and strategic plan.
  • Identify opportunities for service expansion, program development, and operational improvements.
  • Foster a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Assume full responsibility for the financial performance of the Occupational Therapy Department.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and productivity targets.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including revenue, expenses, clinician productivity, patient volume, and profitability.
  • Analyze operational and financial data to identify trends and implement performance improvement strategies.
  • Partner with leadership to develop growth plans and market expansion opportunities.
  • Lead all recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts for occupational therapy staff.
  • Develop workforce planning strategies to ensure adequate staffing levels across all locations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with occupational therapy schools, professional organizations, and recruiting resources.
  • Create career development pathways and succession planning initiatives.
  • Directly supervise Occupational Therapy Managers, Lead Therapists, and clinical staff as assigned.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish measurable performance goals.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members to maximize clinical and professional growth.
  • Address employee relations issues, performance concerns, and corrective action processes when necessary.
  • Promote employee engagement, retention, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy services.
  • Establish and monitor clinical standards, policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, payer, and accreditation requirements.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction, treatment outcomes, and quality metrics.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and risk management efforts.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of occupational therapy services across all clinic locations.
  • Ensure efficient scheduling, patient flow, documentation compliance, and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with Physical Therapy leadership and clinic management to optimize interdisciplinary care delivery.
  • Implement operational efficiencies that improve patient experience and organizational performance.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with referral sources, physicians, employers, and community partners.
  • Represent Axis Hand & Physical Therapy at professional and community events.
  • Support business development initiatives and referral growth strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and payer guidelines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of healthcare regulations impacting occupational therapy services.
  • Support preparation for audits, inspections, and accreditation reviews.
