About The Position

The Director - Nursing Inpatient - Surgical Services is responsible for providing clinical and administrative leadership to assigned departments to maintain standards of patient care. This role is responsible for the overall quality of care provided by the organization's nursing personnel. The Director advises medical staff, department leaders, and administrators in matters related to nursing service and strategies, and interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. The position monitors the operations of the nursing staff and ensures compliance with regulations on organizational and governmental standards and practices. The Director participates in task forces, committees, and board meetings to assist with overall organizational goals and strategic initiatives, and reviews and consults on strategic plans in collaboration with leadership and nursing units. The ability to implement and sustain strategies to support the vision, mission, and goals of the organization is crucial. This role develops trusting relationships with personnel, clinical professionals, other leadership, and inter-professional departments with a professional attitude. Understanding and leveraging current and potential team capabilities, and the ability to clarify performance targets and objectives to drive project and process improvement strategies are key. Knowledge of human resources and personnel management processes, and the ability to lead, motivate, evaluate, and reward personnel at the workplace are also essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Minimum of three years clinical experience required.
  • Minimum of two years prior management/leadership experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the nursing practice act and standards of nursing care.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and management techniques.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • Certification is encouraged and may be required depending on specialty or service area.
