About The Position

The National Director of Self-Perform provides enterprise-wide leadership for all expert trade specific operations, ensuring consistent standards, best-in-class execution, and strong alignment across regions and divisions. This role develops and implements national strategy, leads growth initiatives to drive revenue and trade expertise market expansion, influences P/L performance, ensures operational excellence, drives standardization, and advances talent development to support predictable, high-quality outcomes across the company’s trade expertise portfolio.

Requirements

  • 20+ years in trade expertise execution, estimating, and project management.
  • Strong field experience required.
  • Knowledgeable in scheduling, productivity, cost control, and formwork systems.
  • Proficient and current trade expertise knowledge/certification.
  • Familiarity with enterprise construction technology platforms.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly to support regional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement a national vision for the Self-Perform trade expertise program aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Promote a culture focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost discipline.
  • Lead integration of trade expertise operations across markets and regions while honoring local and regional differences.
  • Set long-term business goals and maturation milestones for the trade expertise organization.
  • Develop and refine the Trade Expertise Center of Excellence to support consistent execution across the enterprise.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to regional leaders on trade expertise means, methods, execution, and dispute resolution.
  • Establish and maintain national standards for planning, estimating, execution, formwork systems, sequencing, curing, and turnover documentation.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to select and validate final means and methods.
  • Maintain and update a centralized library of tools, templates, SOPs, and best practices.
  • Conduct periodic site inspections and performance audits to validate implementation and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and support predictable project outcomes.
  • Ensure adoption of appropriate technology platforms to improve scheduling, tracking, and cost performance.
  • Provide executive oversight for preconstruction, estimating, planning, engineering, safety, and field execution of trade expertise work.
  • Ensure accurate and reliable cost estimates, schedules, procurement strategies, and formwork system selections.
  • Ensure trade expertise schedules are integrated into overall project schedules and maintained by project teams.
  • Partner with regional leaders on operational decision-making, risk mitigation, procurement, and vendor/supplier relationships.
  • Support operations teams through expert guidance on complex systems, sequencing, and constructability.
  • Provide performance reports, data analysis, and predictive metrics.
  • Influence P/L through standardization, cost control strategies, forecasting support, and staffing alignment.
  • Partner with Operations and Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and national planning.
  • Identify systemic risks tied to cost, schedule, equipment, and workforce; lead mitigation planning.
  • Oversee standardization of estimating platforms, databases, templates, and deliverables.
  • Support hiring, development, and retention of trade expertise leaders and field personnel.
  • Partner with our Talent team on craft recruitment, training and development to build a best-in-class trade expertise craft workforce.
  • Lead training programs for trade expertise planning, estimating, productivity improvement, formwork systems, placement practices, curing, and documentation.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching for trade expertise managers, superintendents, foremen, estimators, and project teams.
  • Train teams on cost/value management and constructability analysis.
  • Support regional leaders with career development planning and performance evaluations.
  • Lead the National Trade Expertise Council and publish updates.
  • Evaluate new industry standards, codes, technologies, and innovations.
  • Maintain lists of third-party advisors and specialty consultants.
  • Represent the company at industry events and conferences.
  • Champion a strong safety culture.
  • Identify regional risks and implement preventative strategies.
