About The Position

Lumen Solutions Group is seeking an accomplished MTA relationship and account-development executive to substantially expand our presence across the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. This is not an opportunity to start an account from scratch. Lumen has an existing MTA contract, an established recruiting and delivery organization, and more than 16 years of experience supporting complex IT and rail-transportation environments. We are looking for the right individual to leverage that foundation, deepen our customer relationships, uncover new opportunities, and grow the account across MTA and its operating agencies. The Director of MTA Account Development will focus on relationship building, customer intelligence, account penetration, meetings, opportunity development, and revenue growth across: Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit (NYCT) Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Metro-North Railroad Other affiliated MTA departments and operating agencies. This is a senior, client-facing account-development position—not a recruiting role. The selected individual will work closely with Lumen’s leadership and established recruiting organization, which will source, screen, and deliver qualified consultants against identified requirements.

Requirements

  • Direct, established customer relationships within MTA and one or more of its operating agencies, including NYCT, LIRR, or Metro-North.
  • Demonstrated sales, business-development, or strategic account-development responsibility within the MTA environment.
  • Proven success building relationships with MTA decision-makers, technology leaders, program managers, procurement stakeholders, and operational leadership.
  • Strong understanding of how MTA and its operating agencies plan, budget, procure, evaluate, and engage consulting or technology-service providers.
  • Experience developing new opportunities and expanding revenue within an existing public-sector or transportation account.
  • Background as a successful individual contributor, sales leader, account executive, client partner, or sales manager.
  • Ability to develop executive-level relationships while also working effectively with program, technical, procurement, and operational stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of consultative selling, account planning, opportunity qualification, pipeline development, forecasting, and revenue management.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, relationship-building, negotiation, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to operate independently, take ownership, create momentum, and consistently advance relationships and opportunities.
  • Willingness and ability to meet with MTA stakeholders throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Nice To Haves

  • Significant existing relationship network across multiple MTA operating agencies.
  • Previous success selling IT consulting, professional services, technology solutions, project-based services, or staff-augmentation services to MTA.
  • Experience supporting technology, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data, cloud, enterprise applications, transportation systems, operations, engineering, or capital-program initiatives.
  • Knowledge of the New York public-sector contracting and vendor environment.
  • Familiarity with large-scale rail, transit, transportation, infrastructure, or highly regulated organizations.
  • Experience growing a major transportation or government account from an established contractual foothold.
  • A documented record of generating substantial account revenue and gross profit.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive account-growth strategy across MTA, NYCT, LIRR, Metro-North, and related operating agencies.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with executive leaders, technology managers, procurement stakeholders, program leaders, and other key decision-makers throughout the MTA organization.
  • Leverage existing MTA relationships and market knowledge to identify active initiatives, upcoming requirements, budget priorities, organizational changes, and new areas of opportunity.
  • Expand Lumen’s visibility and access across multiple MTA departments, business units, technology groups, and operating agencies.
  • Schedule and lead customer meetings, capability presentations, discovery sessions, and strategic account discussions.
  • Identify consulting, technology, project-delivery, professional-services, and staff-augmentation opportunities aligned with Lumen’s capabilities.
  • Obtain detailed customer intelligence regarding projects, technical environments, decision-makers, procurement processes, incumbent vendors, competitive activity, and anticipated demand.
  • Develop account plans, relationship maps, opportunity pipelines, revenue forecasts, and measurable growth targets.
  • Track account activity, meetings, opportunities, next steps, and revenue progress through Lumen’s established reporting processes.
  • Represent Lumen professionally at customer meetings, industry events, transportation-technology forums, and other relevant networking opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to MTA stakeholders by bringing market intelligence, delivery insight, responsiveness, and a strong understanding of technology and transportation operations.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on pricing, competitive positioning, contract strategy, resource planning, and long-term account development.
  • Take direct ownership of account penetration, opportunity creation, gross-profit growth, and overall MTA account performance.
