About The Position

This role exists to define, validate, and advance Hyundai Motor America's future mobility opportunities across Mobility, Electrification, Connectivity, and Autonomy (MECA), with a clear focus on U.S. market relevance and commercial execution. The Director converts emerging technology, software, energy, autonomy, and new mobility concepts into strategies, business cases, funded pilots, partnerships, and scalable programs that strengthen Hyundai's competitive position, create daily customer value, and unlock new sources of enterprise growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; business, engineering, technology, economics, or related field preferred.
  • Fifteen or more years of progressive experience in strategy, corporate development, product, venture, or new business roles, including five or more years in automotive, mobility, connected technology, EV technology, energy, software, or adjacent emerging technology sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team, developing talent, setting priorities, and delivering results through direct and matrixed contributors.
  • Demonstrated track record of taking initiatives from concept to piloted, launched, or scaled outcomes inside a large, matrixed organization.
  • Working fluency across MECA domains, including SDV architecture and monetization, GenAI/AI assistant strategy, energy/V2G, charging infrastructure, autonomy, robotics, data governance, cybersecurity, and emerging mobility platforms, sufficient to challenge technical teams and translate implications for senior leadership.
  • Strong financial and business case acumen; able to build and defend valuation, margin, ROI, adoption, scalability, and investment arguments for executive and board-level audiences.
  • Proven ability to build coalitions, secure sponsorship, and move decisions forward across functions, geographies, and resource-constrained environments.
  • Experience building and using competitive intelligence, ecosystem scanning, and regulatory/policy interpretation frameworks to inform strategy and investment priorities.
  • Strong people leadership capability; able to coach talent, set expectations, manage performance, and build team operating rhythms that improve execution quality.
  • Strong executive presentation capability; able to develop and deliver polished, board-ready presentations independently and translate complex technical, financial, and strategic material for senior leadership.
  • Advanced influence and persuasion skills; able to secure buy-in from peers, senior leaders, HMC stakeholders, and external partners without relying solely on formal authority.

Responsibilities

  • Future mobility strategy and roadmap development: Define HMA's MECA opportunity roadmap across software-defined vehicles, GenAI-enabled AI assistants, connectivity, electrification, energy services, autonomy, robotics, and new mobility platforms; translate U.S. customer needs, market shifts, regulatory developments, and competitive intelligence into actionable strategic recommendations.
  • Business case development and investment justification: Build and defend executive-ready business cases, including total addressable market, unit economics, margin impact, ROI, data monetization potential, funding requirements, risk assessment, and implementation sequencing to secure capital, headcount, and cross-functional support.
  • Software, connectivity, data, and monetization strategy: Lead strategy development for AI assistants, in-vehicle experience, OTA capability, vehicle cybersecurity posture, privacy and data governance, in-car Wi-Fi/connectivity partnerships, app-store models, subscriptions, digital wallet integration, and other in-car monetization opportunities.
  • EV infrastructure, energy, and charging ecosystem strategy: Advance EV charging infrastructure, vehicle-to-grid (V2G), bi-directional charging, home energy integration, energy services, retail energy models, battery technology pathways, hydrogen, and extended-range EV (EREV) opportunities from strategy through pilot and scalable deployment.
  • Autonomy, robotics, and emerging platform assessment: Evaluate robotaxi, ride-hailing, robotics, urban air mobility, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), and other emerging mobility platforms; identify where Hyundai should partner, pilot, invest, or defer based on customer value, competitive advantage, commercial viability, regulatory readiness, and execution risk.
  • Partnership development, ecosystem scanning, and pilot execution: Identify, structure, and lead high-profile partnerships and new business development opportunities across startups, suppliers, technology companies, utilities, charging networks, government programs, and venture activity; move initiatives from concept through pilot, launch, post-launch learning, KPI evaluation, and scale while owning issue resolution and stakeholder alignment.
  • People leadership and organizational capability building: Manage and develop a direct team responsible for MECA strategy, market sensing, business case development, stakeholder engagement, and pilot execution; set priorities, coach talent, manage performance, and build repeatable operating processes that improve execution quality and speed.
  • Global alignment and stakeholder orchestration: Serve as the primary point of coordination between HMA and HMC on MECA-related strategy, ensuring U.S. market needs inform the global roadmap while aligning internal sponsors, product planning, finance, legal, IT, engineering, sales, service, and external partners around clear decisions and next steps.
  • Lead Mobility & Emerging Technology strategy, business cases, and pilot execution.
  • Manage teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Set priorities, allocate resources, and drive accountability.
  • Evaluate partnerships and secure funding for key initiatives.
  • Track KPIs related to adoption, customer value, and business impact.
  • Develop mobility roadmaps and executive-ready recommendations.
  • Launch pilots and strategic partnership programs.
  • Strengthen HMA/HMC alignment and market intelligence efforts.
