About The Position

The Director, Medical Publications – TTR Franchise will lead the strategic development and execution of the global medical publication plan for Alnylam’s transthyretin amyloidosis (TTR) franchise. As a key member of the Medical Affairs organization, this individual will play a central role in driving the timely, accurate, and compliant dissemination of clinical and scientific data through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at global congresses. The Director will partner closely with cross-functional colleagues, including Medical Directors, Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Scientific Communications, Legal, and Commercial teams, to ensure publication activities are aligned with the broader medical and corporate strategy. This role will also lead publication governance, collaborate with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and external authors, and contribute to Alnylam’s scientific leadership in cardiology. The position requires a high level of scientific expertise, strategic acumen, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • PhD preferred; PharmD or MD considered, with 7+ years of relevant pharmaceutical, biotech, medical communications, or medical education experience.
  • CMPP certification preferred.
  • Experience in medical affairs, scientific communications, and publications required.
  • Experience interacting with scientific experts, external authors, and senior stakeholders required.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including direct management and/or matrix leadership required.
  • Experience leading publication strategy, planning, governance, and execution for complex global programs required.
  • Strong knowledge of GPP, ICMJE authorship criteria, and publication best practices required.
  • Experience managing publication vendors, agencies, and external authors required.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and operational leadership skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate effectively in a matrixed environment required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading publication working groups and publication steering committees preferred.
  • Experience in rare disease, cardiology, or RNA-based therapeutics preferred.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI-enabled tools, automation solutions, or innovative publication workflows preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, execution, governance, and continuous optimization of the global publication strategy and plan for the TTR Franchise, ensuring alignment with overarching medical, evidence generation, and corporate objectives.
  • Serve as the publication lead for the TTR Franchise and the primary strategic partner to Medical Directors, Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Scientific Communications, Legal, Regulatory, and Commercial stakeholders.
  • Chair the cross-functional TTR Publication Working Group and oversee publication governance processes, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and strategically aligned publication planning and execution.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of scientific dissemination activities, including abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts, plain language summaries, encore presentations, and other publication deliverables.
  • Lead and continuously enhance publication operations, including management of publication processes, timelines, agency partners, vendors, publication systems, cross-functional collaboration, and performance metrics to ensure efficient and compliant execution.
  • Collaborate with external experts, authors, publication steering committee members, and medical writing partners to ensure timely, accurate, and GPP-compliant delivery of scientific communications.
  • Lead continuous improvement and innovation initiatives across publication planning and execution, including evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), automation tools, and new ways of working to enhance efficiency, quality, compliance, and scientific impact.
  • Monitor external trends and evolving best practices in scientific publishing, publication planning, and AI-enabled content development, translating insights into actionable improvements for the franchise.
  • Stay informed of current ATTR amyloidosis literature and provide strategic insights regarding the scientific landscape to inform publication planning and evidence dissemination priorities.
  • Represent Alnylam at scientific congresses, publication steering committees, advisory boards, outreach meetings, and interactions with key external experts and thought leaders. Some travel to U.S. and international congresses or for publications activities required.
  • Lead and mentor publication team members, fostering a culture of scientific excellence, operational rigor, collaboration, and integrity.
