About The Position

The Director of Medical Education and Professional Relations will provide strategic leadership and management oversight for the development and execution of world-class medical education programs while serving as the owner of the company's Key Opinion Leader (KOL) and professional stakeholder engagement strategy. This includes overseeing the creation of high-quality clinical and scientific content for education courses, elevating the presentation and influencing capabilities of surgeon faculty, and cultivating long-term relationships with KOLs, emerging thought leaders, professional societies, and academic institutions. By fostering authentic scientific partnerships and delivering robust, evidence-based education, the Director will gather actionable insights, support evidence dissemination, enhance clinician knowledge and confidence, and accelerate product adoption and market access – all in full compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, AdvaMed Code, Sunshine Act/Open Payments). The Director of Medical Education and Professional Relations reports to the SVP of Global Clinical Affairs and Medical Education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences or health science discipline; Master’s or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in medical education, professional relations, medical affairs or similar role within the medical device or biotech industry
  • Hands-on worker able to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently, independently and with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Able to view surgical procedures and participate in surgical education events
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including developing relationships at all levels in an organization and directly influencing business objectives
  • Ability to think critically, assess situations quickly to make sound decisions and challenge themselves to solve problems creatively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office platform products (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Word)

  • Experience within the soft tissue regeneration or hernia repair field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive medical education and professional relations strategy aligned with the company's product lifecycle, clinical evidence pipeline, and therapeutic area priorities.
  • Build, nurture, and manage long-term, trust-based relationships with surgeon thought leaders, academic institutions, professional societies, and key healthcare stakeholders to foster advocacy, gather insights, and support evidence generation and dissemination.
  • Lead the development of high-quality clinical and scientific content for medical education courses, programs, and materials—including syllabi, slide decks, and digital/on-demand modules—ensuring content is evidence-based, scientifically accurate, fair-balanced, compliant with regulatory guidelines, and tailored to address identified educational gaps and unmet clinician needs.
  • Design and implement faculty development initiatives to elevate the presentation, communication, and influencing skills of surgeon consultants and faculty members to build peer credibility and maximize educational impact in live/virtual settings.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of impactful medical education programs (live/virtual hands-on training, symposia, webinars, cadaver/wet labs, fellowship support) informed by KOL insights, gap analyses, and internal cross-functional stakeholder feedback.
  • Establish and track meaningful metrics for content effectiveness and faculty impact (e.g., knowledge gains, adoption trends, feedback surveys) to demonstrate value and continuously refine strategies.
  • Stay current on trends in medical education content creation, digital platforms, faculty development best practices, regulatory changes, and MedTech standards.
  • Mentor and develop team members in content strategy, faculty coaching, KOL engagement, and compliant scientific exchange.
  • Manage departmental budget, vendors, agencies, faculty honoraria, and program execution for cost-effective delivery.
  • Oversee HCP contracting and payment processes.
  • Ensure all activities are fully compliant with FDA regulations, AdvaMed Code, Sunshine Act reporting, fair-market-value standards, conflict-of-interest mitigation, and fair balance.
