About The Position

The Director of Medical Communications provides strategic leadership for Medical Communications in support of Therapeutic Area Medical Units. This role partners closely with Medical Directors, Medical Information, Clinical Development, HEOR/Real-World Data, Field Medical, Regulatory, Commercial, and Corporate Communications to translate scientific evidence into integrated medical communication strategies that advance patient care, support compliant scientific exchange, and strengthen scientific leadership across approved products and pipeline assets. The Director is responsible for developing and executing medical communication strategies, scientific narratives, multichannel scientific engagement, and medical content guidance that support healthcare professionals, patients, payers, and other stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Advance degree (PharmD, PhD, MD or equivalent)
  • 10+ years of progressive Medical Affairs experience, including Medical Communications and Medical Information leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic medical communications
  • Experience with digital medical communications platforms, content management systems, and multichannel engagement strategies.
  • Experience in Medical Information operations, inquiry management, and compliant scientific exchange.
  • Vendor management including performance, quality, and budget oversight
  • In depth knowledge of Medical Affairs ethics and compliance environment
  • Travel expectations: approximately 20%, domestic and international

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic Medical Communications within the Therapeutic Area Medical Unit model, partnering with Medical Directors to develop and execute integrated medical communication strategies across commercial products and pipeline programs.
  • Partner with the Medical Directors, Clinical Development, Research, Regulatory, HEOR/RWD, Field Medical, Commercial, and Corporate Communications to translate scientific evidence into medical communication strategies that support annual medical plans and corporate objectives.
  • Lead the development of multichannel disease state education assets, peer-to-peer web-based and other HCP engagement strategies while ensuring scientific accuracy, objectivity, fair-balance, and alignment with internal medical communications plans.
  • Oversee Medical Affairs website/content hub strategy, including content planning, taxonomy/SEO considerations, asset upload readiness, Veeva/MLR review coordination, and user experience input.
  • Support integration of new assets, products, or therapeutic areas into medical communications platforms, including development of disease-state, pipeline, clinical trial, congress, publication, and mechanism-of-action content.
  • Lead planning and execution for medical congress presence, including communication objectives, exhibit booth strategy, vendor coordination, logistics, booth staffing, asset development, and post-congress follow-up.
  • Lead development and review of medical press releases, congress-related communications, and associated social/digital content in partnership with Corporate Communications, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with Medical leadership to develop internal communications highlighting Medical Affairs activities and impact.
  • Support Medical Information and Field Medical content development by providing scientific content strategy, therapeutic area context, and alignment with broader Medical Communications plans to inform response development and resource prioritization.
  • Maintain awareness of scientific publications, competitive insights, and disease state knowledge.
  • Develop the annual tactical plan and budget for Medical Communications activities; manage Medical Communications vendor, contracts, and invoicing.
  • Develop, monitor, and communicate metrics and KPIs that demonstrate the impact of Medical Communications on scientific engagement, customer experience, organizational priorities, and Medical Affairs strategy.
