About The Position

We are seeking a Director, Medical Affairs Strategic Operations & Excellence to serve as a hands-on strategic operations partner and builder for Immunic’s Medical Affairs function. This role requires deep Medical Affairs operations experience, sound judgment, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Medical Affairs or closely related roles within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including substantial experience in Medical Affairs operations, planning, strategic operations, or excellence.
  • Demonstrated success building or improving operating models, governance, planning processes, dashboards, or PMO capabilities within Medical Affairs, ideally in a lean or pre-commercial biotech environment.
  • Strong understanding of Medical Affairs functions and deliverables, including how evidence generation, publications, scientific communication, external engagement, and medical information connect operationally.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex workstreams, create structure in ambiguous environments, and drive execution with strong project and portfolio management discipline.
  • Experience with KPI development, dashboarding, budget tracking, and operational reporting to support leadership decision-making and business visibility.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance principles governing Medical Affairs activities and scientific exchange, with the judgment to partner effectively across Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence without formal authority and work effectively with senior leaders, scientific colleagues, and external partners.
  • Comfort working with data, metrics, and digital tools such as dashboards, CRM platforms, and project management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in neurology, immunology, or other specialty-care therapeutic areas is a plus, but strong operational leadership capability is more important than therapeutic area expertise.

  • Partner with the VP, Medical Affairs, and Medical Affairs leadership to translate functional strategy and priorities into integrated annual and quarterly plans with clear objectives, timelines, accountable owners, and mechanisms for follow-through.
  • Design and lead the Medical Affairs operating rhythm, including leadership meetings, business reviews, planning cycles, and selected launch readiness checkpoints, ensuring clear decisions, ownership, and timely escalation of risks or issues.
  • Own Medical Affairs dashboards, KPIs, and reporting, providing leadership with clear visibility into progress, performance, risks, and opportunities across the function.
  • Lead Medical Affairs budget planning and tracking processes in partnership with the VP, Medical Affairs, and support resource visibility across initiatives to help ensure the function remains on track and within budget.
  • Build and manage core planning and PMO infrastructure, including trackers, dashboards, templates, and portfolio views, while maintaining an integrated perspective across Medical Affairs initiatives and identifying interdependencies, trade-offs, and risks.
  • Drive execution discipline across key Medical Affairs priorities by monitoring milestones, escalating issues, and ensuring timely follow-through against agreed deliverables in partnership with initiative owners and Medical Affairs leadership.
  • Lead Medical Excellence initiatives focused on KPI discipline, governance, process improvement, and standardized ways of working that enhance the effectiveness and scalability of the Medical Affairs function.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs leadership and Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance to coordinate practical, scalable processes and documentation standards that support compliant execution.
  • Support the evolution of Medical Information and inquiry-handling processes, as appropriate, through coordination of process, documentation, and vendor support in partnership with functional owners.
  • Manage relationships with Medical Affairs agencies, medical communications vendors, and other external partners to support shared operational delivery, including timelines, coordination, quality, and budget adherence.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the VP, Medical Affairs, helping translate leadership priorities into actionable plans, prepare leadership materials, and communicate progress, risks, decisions, and operational needs across the function.
