Director, Media Workflows

Fox•Los Angeles, CA

About The Position

The Media Workflows department is the connective tissue of FOX Sports’ content operations — an umbrella group spanning post production, live studio playback, workflows from ingest to air for all of FOX Sports’ production and operations teams. FOX Sports produces a wide array of live sports as well as original studio and other programming for air on the FOX Broadcasting Channel, FS1 & FS2, and digital platforms such as FOX One and various social media channels. As content volume, speed-to-air, and the number of distribution surfaces continue to grow, the department’s mandate is no longer only to keep these workflows running reliably — it is to continuously re-engineer them into a media supply chain that is increasingly software-defined, cloud-enabled, data-rich, and agent-assisted, without compromising the reliability that live production demands. The Director, Media Workflows carries a deliberate dual mandate: to run today’s post production and live studio workflows and operations with uncompromising reliability, and to lead the transformation of those operations — introducing AI, automation, and orchestration as core, owned outcomes rather than experiments at the edges. This is a single leadership role that both operates the plant and changes it. Reporting to the Vice President of Media Workflows, the Director oversees all facets of Post Production — managing media teams for post and live productions, technical operation of edit bays, live studio edit/playback systems, and capital projects for improvements across all areas. Within the first 12–18 months, this Director will have kept live and post production reliably on-air while measurably advancing the department’s transformation: Agents and automation embedded into named workflows with tracked ROI; a metadata and content-as-data foundation in place; a repeatable innovation pipeline moving proofs-of-concept into production; and a workforce actively reskilled for automated/assisted operations. The measure is not that the workflows still run — it is that they are demonstrably faster, more discoverable, more automated, and more resilient than they were.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in network-level broadcast and/or post production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud and hybrid media workflows and their operational and cost-governance implications for post-production or broadcast environments.
  • Experience deploying AI/ML into production workflows — not only fluency with tools (Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, etc.), but hands-on experience integrating AI services, designing agentic or human-in-the-loop workflows, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Understanding of machine-learning training and implementation
  • Expertise with post production tools across editorial and graphics applications, MAM/PAM solutions, media-centric file-based workflows, and digital file-transfer solutions
  • Strong background in leading technical teams, change management, and enterprise-level business initiatives, with the ability to build consensus and motivate staff across a large landscape
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and documentation skills; proficiency across Google Workspace and collaboration tools (Slack, Zoom, Outlook); knowledge of both Mac and PC environments

Nice To Haves

  • Education in TV Production, Broadcasting, Engineering, or a related communications field
  • 3+ years of enterprise-level management in a related field; supplemental education in business management
  • Direct or adjacent experience in product development / product management, software engineering, or DevOps — the disciplines behind treating workflows as products and automation as software
  • Familiarity with distributed / HRP (at-home) production models and cloud FinOps
  • Awareness of content-authenticity and provenance standards (e.g., C2PA) and the rights, likeness, and governance considerations around synthetic and AI-modified media
  • Exposure to observability/telemetry practices and defining operations by measured SLAs and quality

Responsibilities

  • Oversee workflow practices across technical facilities — hardware, software, and personnel — to meet the creative and operational requirements of all shows and events
  • Architect and maintain content management and workflow systems at an enterprise level, spanning operational requirements for live and post production and administrative management
  • Maintain focus on high-level company objectives while managing the granular, interconnected dependencies of highly visible live production workflows; solves problems appropriately and escalates when necessary
  • Own capital planning and project delivery for improvements across all post production and media workflow areas, sequencing modernization against live-event and craft edit obligations
  • Design agentic and human-in-the-loop workflows that embed agents into production, defining where automation acts autonomously and where human review is required, with editorial quality and speed-to-air as the measured outcomes
  • Own the orchestration and automation layer connecting MAM/PAM, playback, and ingest systems —event-driven and API-first — treating these workflows as products with roadmaps rather than facilities to keep alive
  • Accountable for Innovation ROI: define success metrics, tracks adoption and cost-to-value, and retires tools that do not earn their place
  • Accountable for cloud and hybrid media workflows and for remote/distributed post production models, extending edit and playback beyond fixed on-prem facilities, exchanging content anywhere in the world
  • Partner with Engineering to define the reference architecture for where workloads run (on-prem, cloud, or hybrid) based on latency, cost, and reliability
  • Accountable for content protection and resilience across a surface widened by cloud services and third-party vendors — partnering with Information Security on vendor and supply-chain risk
  • Ensure automated pipelines fail safely, with monitoring, fallbacks, and recovery paths appropriate to live, no-second-take production
  • Lead reskilling and role redefinition as automation reshapes media operations, defining how post and live-production roles evolve alongside automated workflows
  • Own management of NABET union freelancers — contract policy, workflow practices, scheduling, budget, and personnel matters — and navigates union relationships thoughtfully through operational and technological change.
  • Serve as change agent for the department, bringing team leads and frontline staff along through transformation with clear communication and prioritized, fluid information
  • Run innovation as a repeatable function — structured proofs-of-concept, an emerging-technology evaluation pipeline, and clear graduation criteria from pilot to production — rather than as ad hoc experimentation.
  • Manage strategic cloud, automation, and tooling partnerships, positioning Fox Sports to assert industry leadership in workflow and media-technology advances.
  • Maintain operational continuity and alignment across Fox Sports — other Operations groups, Production, Engineering, Media Management, technology groups, and Creative Services.
  • Sustain close relationships with production leads to understand evolving workflow needs, and with engineering and technical leaders to align strategy, technology trends, and vendor direction.
  • Further a culture of collaboration, operational excellence, and accountability within post production and, indirectly, across FOX Sports
