About The Position

Primary purpose The Materials Management Director – COE serves as a key driver in optimizing Tallgrass’s Transformation Initiative with a focus on materials management excellence across the company. This leadership role is responsible for translating strategic objectives into actionable plans that enhance materials management processes, deliver cost savings, mitigate supply chain risks, and create a competitive advantage. The role emphasizes transforming end-to-end materials management processes to world-class standards, driving continuous improvement, and managing change control across all the organization to ensure superior performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This position supports the development and deployment of standardized, digitized materials management processes to ensure consistent, predictable outcomes aligned with Tallgrass’s overall business objectives and strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of direct experience in materials management, procurement, supply chain, vendor management, and contract management.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain risk management, including geopolitical, financial, operational, cybersecurity, and natural disaster risks.
  • Expertise in financial modeling, ROI analysis, and project cost simulation.
  • Experience working in multinational companies and managing complex supply chains.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement digital integration strategies for procurement and materials workflows.
  • Experience in project accounting and financial oversight related to materials.
  • Proven ability to design and lead materials management departments, including policy development for storage and distribution.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle for materials management and master data creation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Experience implementing Automated Supply Chain Intelligence
  • Strong Proficiency in designing and implementing source-to-Contract, request-to-pay, and global procurement services specifically in Oracle Cloud and SAP Environments
  • Experience with procurement orchestration platforms (e.g., Ivalua, GEP, Coupa) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead change management initiatives related to materials management across Tallgrass, ensuring smooth adoption and compliance.
  • Develop and execute annual strategic plans for materials management, including spend analysis, benchmarking, and market trend evaluation.
  • Partner with projects, operations, engineering, finance, and other departments to align materials management activities with business needs and project timelines.
  • Ensure timely, cost-effective sourcing and delivery of materials to support new project developments and ongoing operations.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive materials management transformation strategy aligned with company vision and goals.
  • Identify opportunities for process innovation and efficiency improvements within materials management, championing initiatives that reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Establish and track KPIs and metrics to measure success and drive accountability in materials management.
  • Lead efforts to standardize and digitize materials management processes through a Management Operating System, ensuring consistent and predictable results.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, commodity managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure a robust supply pipeline.
  • Own and support MBR processes related to materials management, including KPI tracking and policy communication.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Business Model Leaders to ensure materials management strategies align with overall corporate objectives.
  • Develop and implement training and communication plans for materials management teams and related functions to ensure alignment and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive adoption, maturity, and compliance of materials management transformation initiatives across the organization.
  • Lead supply chain risk assessment and mitigation strategies, including inflation management and should-cost analysis for materials.
  • Utilize advanced sourcing techniques, market intelligence, and commodity management strategies to optimize materials procurement.
  • Apply strong financial skills in working capital management, project cost analysis, budgeting, and forecasting related to materials.
  • Lead redesign of materials management processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance quality and service levels.
  • Establish and oversee policies and procedures for materials storage, surplus management, and distribution.
