About The Position

Responsible for leading and managing the supply chain program, equipment/asset management program, and service contract management system. The Director will supervise and coordinate the acquisition, distribution, and disposal of all hospital supplies and equipment in a manner that returns best value for EMC and its patients. Departments and functions may include Purchasing, Receiving, Warehouse, Supply Processing and Distribution and other miscellaneous services/functions.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively negotiates contracts for equipment, services, and supplies using best practice techniques to return value to EMC and its patients.
  • Ensures goods and services are acquired at the lowest possible cost consistent with accepted standards of quality and service.
  • Ensures adequate inventory levels are maintained, implementing techniques that give full consideration to investment, cash flow, item availability, usage history and patient census.
  • Directs the purchasing, receipt, storage and distribution of all material throughout the Medical Center.
  • Consults, advises and assists the Medical Center’s management staff and other personnel in matters involving materials needs.
  • Takes an active role in Chair of the Produce/Equipment Standardization and Forms Control Committees, service line development and new product evaluation.
  • Works closely with Accounts Payable department to ensure that supply purchase orders are accurate and the EMC only pays for those items it has received, at the negotiated amount/amount due.
  • Works with physicians, hospital leaders and vendors t ensure best product/best price/best materials management practices.
  • Evaluates and manages the cost/benefit of supply chain automation and implements or changes processes to ensure best practice.
  • Develops, in conjunction with HIS, effective materials management information systems to support the processes throughout the Medical Center.
  • Develops an “internal customer” philosophy that serves the front-line caregivers.
  • Improves the work environment for Materials Management staff.
  • Coordinates the storage of supplies and equipment for the institution and disposes of facility assets properly and in coordination with hospital leadership and Accounting.
  • Maintains an open line of communication with the Medical Center’s Administration regarding Materials Management issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
