About The Position

Our client is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to removing the financial barriers standing between cancer patients and their treatment — such as loss of income, increased out-of-pocket expenses, and socioeconomic factors. When faced with these financial barriers, families have to make impossible decisions like choosing between paying for treatment or basic essentials like housing, food, and transportation. No family should have to choose between their health and their home — and we won’t stop until that’s the reality. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that strengthens Our brand amplifies our mission and drives engagement among key audiences and fundraising efforts. Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader will oversee all aspects of internal and external communications, brand management, media relations, and marketing campaigns. They will serve as the organizational connector across multiple departments, ensuring cohesive messaging and alignment in how we communicate its impact. This role manages both a PR agency and a content creation and marketing agency, serving as the project manager and strategic liaison between them, while ensuring that all outputs authentically reflect our voice, values, and mission. All communication and marketing efforts will center on advancing awareness of the Financial Resource Center and its role in breaking down the financial barriers that prevent cancer patients from accessing care. The Director will also partner closely with the Leadership Team (SLT) and the Extended Leadership Team (ELT) to support organizational initiatives and internal communications that strengthen the team’s ability to confidently and consistently talk about our mission, impact, and the Financial Resource Center as the heart of our work. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a strong collaborator, and an exceptional storyteller who can translate the complex realities of cancer-related financial hardship into clear, inspiring narratives that move audiences to action and deepen understanding of our mission.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in marketing and communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven success developing and executing integrated communications strategies for mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience managing multiple external agencies or consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-departmental projects and manage multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex information into compelling narratives.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with experience working across teams and departments.
  • High attention to detail, strong project management skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for our mission and commitment to equity, collaboration, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and execution of our marketing and communications strategy to elevate brand awareness, stakeholder engagement, and mission alignment.
  • Partner with the CEO and SLT to ensure communication priorities support organizational goals, programs, and fundraising efforts.
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable marketing and communications plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Oversee departmental planning, including development of annual objectives, strategies, and performance indicators.
  • Manage and serve as the key liaison between PR and marketing agencies, ensuring seamless coordination, clear communication, and timely delivery of projects.
  • Oversee workflows, creative briefs, and campaign timelines to maintain consistency across all communication channels.
  • Ensure all external messaging aligns with our brand voice, visual identity, and mission-driven storytelling.
  • Serve as the marketing and communications liaison across departments to ensure consistent internal communications, transparency, and brand alignment.
  • Collaborate closely with Development, Programs, and leadership team to craft materials, messaging, and campaigns that advance fundraising, partnerships, and mission impact.
  • Develop and execute internal communication strategies and materials to foster engagement and culture across the organization.
  • Partner with the ELT to ensure that communication supports organizational priorities and connects the broader team to our impact.
  • Oversee brand positioning and messaging to ensure a strong, consistent, and mission-aligned voice across all platforms.
  • Manage the development of high-quality marketing materials, reports, and digital content that articulate Family Reach’s impact.
  • Guide media relations efforts, including proactive outreach, press releases, and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Monitor and assess marketing and communications performance through analytics and feedback, adjusting strategies accordingly.
