About The Position

The Corporate Maintenance Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Gates Maintenance Management System. This role serves as the company’s primary authority on maintenance, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and return on investment across all manufacturing and distribution assets. This position champions maintenance excellence by driving site organizations to achieve company objectives and execute best-practice, cross-site (“read-across”) initiatives. The successful candidate will leverage deep expertise in reliability engineering, along with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, to optimize asset performance and operational efficiency. As a key functional leader, the Corporate Maintenance Director collaborates closely with cross-functional partners, regional leadership, and site maintenance teams to establish consistent systems, processes, and organizational capabilities that ensure reliable asset availability. These efforts will directly support the company’s achievement of financial performance and customer satisfaction. This leader is responsible for building alignment among key stakeholders, setting priorities in line with organizational goals, and delivering measurable results through a strategic roadmap that elevates maintenance performance across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Facilities Management
  • 10+ Years of progressive experience in maintenance roles, including experience leading full maintenance departments, managing budgets, overseeing maintenance compliance and safety, and implementing preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
  • Must have experience in leading and facilitating project teams.
  • A strong leader with excellent communication and organizational agility skills that have resulted in a track record of successful objective completion.
  • Drive, intelligence, and high expectations of getting results through self and team.
  • Experience in facility audits and in completing root cause analysis and corrective actions using tools similar to Gates’ Major Breakdown Report.
  • Change management leadership capability.
  • High level interpersonal and leadership skills with capability to influence, coach, and partner across multiple levels and locations/regions of the company
  • Strong proficiency using common PC applications: CMMS applications, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Visio, MS Office, MS SharePoint, MS PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree may be considered with extensive experience in maintenance management.
  • Experience partnering with business and functional leaders on developing and driving global or regional initiatives is preferred.
  • The following maintenance certifications are preferred, but not required: Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT), Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (CIMM), General Maintenance Worker Certification

Responsibilities

  • Drive strategy development and execution of maintenance initiatives across global operational sites to achieve maintenance improvement objectives (E.g. PM Completion %, PM Effectiveness, Maintenance Cost as a % of asset replacement value, Spare Part Stock Out, MTBF, etc.).
  • Lead site local maintenance teams in utilizing management tools to identify and implement improvement actions that advance their performance as part of regular cadence meetings held with global sites.
  • Identify best practice maintenance activities or equipment upgrades and lead read-across projects to ensure implementation at similar Gates facilities to achieve the same benefit as the originating site.
  • Support sites in implementation of predictive maintenance and condition monitoring techniques aimed at improving operational performance and asset reliability and/or output (Infrared Inspections, Acoustic/Ultrasonic Monitoring, Vibration Analysis, etc.). Utilize the corporate team as the center of excellence for these techniques to provide sites with resources to implement effectively.
  • Support sites in implementation of equipment upgrades and projects targeting advancement of Gates operations in achieving sustainability goals. Utilize the corporate team as a center of excellence for sustainability projects involving equipment upgrades.
  • Lead identification, standardization, and implementation of maintenance systems utilized to manage activity and report on performance. This includes support of Power BI performance reporting tools and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Conduct facility and equipment inspections to identify maintenance needs and implement corrective actions.
  • Support Gates operations as needed with footprint optimization projects or special projects.
  • Support site operation maintenance teams using Gates human resource management tools including responsibility matrices, performance reviews, talent management process execution, hiring / interview support, tech training programs, coaching & mentoring.
