Director Lead Data Scientist - Investments

Church Pension Group Services Corporation•New York, NY
•$255,000 - $285,000•Hybrid

About The Position

The Director, Lead Data Scientist will help define and build data and analytics capabilities within The Church Pension Fund’s Investments department. Partnering with the Chief Investment Officer, asset class leads, the risk and performance reporting team, and Church Pension Group’s data engineering team, this role will shape how CPF uses investment data to generate insights, evaluate portfolio opportunities and risks, and support decision-making. The position is expected to identify opportunities, develop new approaches, and influence the evolution of CPF’s investment process through data, rather than only respond to requests. CPF oversees approximately $20 billion across public and private investments and holds interests in several hundred individual funds. Its data ranges from portfolio Net Asset Values to details about holdings in venture capital, real estate, public equity, and other funds. CPF is building an internal data warehouse, initially focused on private-fund holdings data, with plans to expand it over time. The Director will help determine how the platform evolves and develop processes, analytical capabilities, and visualizations to derive greater value from investment data. The data engineering team maintains primary responsibility for data warehouse development. The Director will bridge Investments and IT, translating investment needs into data and technology priorities and solutions, and will have substantial ownership over the strategic direction and application of CPF’s investment data and analytics capabilities. Regular in-person, on-site interaction is required for relationship building and collaboration. The current hybrid schedule requires working in the CPG office Tuesday through Thursday, with flexibility to work remotely Monday and Friday.
