About The Position

Virgin Music Group (VMG) is seeking a Director-level executive to serve as the primary liaison for Universal Records – the distributed repertoire division of Republic Records. This role will act as an embedded partner within Universal Records, overseeing the day-to-day management of their distributed repertoire while driving commercial strategy and operational excellence across Virgin Music Group’s global infrastructure. Artists signed to Universal Records are distributed worldwide through Virgin Music Group, which manages global commercial relationships across DSPs and physical retail partners, and provides a range of services from marketing, digital strategy, catalog marketing & optimization, and more. This Director will ensure seamless coordination between Universal Records and VMG’s global teams, aligning strategy, execution, and performance to maximize artist growth and revenue. This is a highly visible, cross-functional role requiring strong commercial instincts, operational expertise, and the ability to translate data into actionable strategy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in music distribution, label services, record label, management, or related music industry environment
  • Deep understanding of digital distribution, DSP ecosystems, marketing strategy, operations, and metadata requirements
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify market opportunities and growth levers
  • Data-driven mindset with confidence interpreting analytics and presenting insights to stakeholders
  • Forward-thinking candidate with experience in AI and a passion for exploring the next frontier of innovation in the music industry
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong relationship builder with a collaborative, service-oriented approach

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary embedded representative and strategic partner between Universal Records and Virgin Music Group
  • Act as the central communication bridge, ensuring alignment across teams and territories
  • Advise Universal Records leadership on distribution strategy, commercial opportunities, and evolving market dynamics
  • Provide expert guidance on leveraging Virgin’s platforms, services, and global infrastructure
  • Lead priority release planning and execution from inception through post-campaign analysis
  • Partner cross-functionally with Commercial Strategy, Marketing, Catalog, Video, Platform Operations, Insights & Analytics, Sync, Finance, and Legal to ensure seamless execution
  • Implement best practices across release campaigns to optimize performance globally
  • Translate internal and external data into insights and actionable growth strategies for artists, labels, and managers
  • Oversee digital and physical product logistics to ensure timely and accurate delivery through VMG systems
  • Ensure metadata integrity and operational excellence across all releases
  • Collaborate with Commercial Marketing to develop compelling narratives and strategies that drive DSP engagement and visibility
  • Maintain accountability for timelines, deliverables, and campaign performance
