Director, IT

DNSFilter•Tampa, FL
•$140,000 - $150,000•Hybrid

About The Position

DNSFilter is seeking a Director of IT to own internal identity, endpoints, and employee technology at their Tampa office. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on running Okta, Google Workspace, and MDM platforms, while leading one Senior IT Support Analyst. The ideal candidate will have experience building an IT function in a fast-paced, hyper-growth SaaS startup or scale-up, with a strong preference for automation over staffing to solve recurring problems. This role reports to the SVP of Operations and collaborates closely with Security, People, Finance, and other departments to ensure seamless employee access to tools. DNSFilter emphasizes diversity and encourages applications from individuals with varied backgrounds and transferable skills.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in IT, including 2+ years leading an internal IT function or team.
  • Deep hands-on experience administering an enterprise identity provider, ideally Okta, including SSO, MFA policy, and lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience administering Apple MDM at fleet scale, ideally Mosyle or Jamf, plus experience managing non-Apple endpoints.
  • Experience owning Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Experience owning hardware asset lifecycle, including inventory accuracy, remote provisioning and returns, and secure device retirement.
  • Experience owning an IT budget, vendor contracts, and software licensing.
  • Demonstrated experience building or materially improving an onboarding, offboarding, and change management lifecycle.
  • Experience operating IT controls under SOC 2 or a comparable framework, including producing audit evidence.
  • A track record of automating recurring work rather than absorbing it.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and directly with non-technical stakeholders, including executives, about what broke and what you are doing about it.
  • Located in the Tampa, FL area and able to work on site from our Tampa office.
  • Must be eligible to work in the region of hire without sponsorship now and/or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a security company, or in an environment where IT hygiene is a customer-facing question.
  • Scripting or automation experience, whether Python, Google Apps Script, or similar.
  • Experience building with AI tooling, including agents, MCP servers, or LLM-assisted ticket deflection.
  • Experience integrating an acquired company's identity, devices, and tooling.
  • Familiarity with Zendesk, BambooHR, Ramp, Vanta, or 1Password.
  • Comfortable in the console, with no interest in leading a team whose work you could not do yourself.
  • Finds the systemic cause behind a recurring ticket rather than closing it faster each time.
  • Communicates proactively about events and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own Okta day-to-day administration, including SSO configuration, app assignments, MFA policy implementation, lifecycle rules, and Okta Desktop MFA.
  • Own Google Workspace administration, including groups, distribution lists, delegated access, and directory hygiene.
  • Own the onboarding, offboarding, and change management lifecycle end to end, ensuring timely access revocation.
  • Partner with Security to define and operate the access model for contractors and BYOD users.
  • Reduce manual access requests through automation, group-based entitlements, and self-service.
  • Own Mosyle for Apple and JumpCloud for other endpoints, including enrollment, configuration profiles, app deployment, patch posture, and device inventory.
  • Ensure all company devices are enrolled through a supervised path.
  • Maintain accurate fleet coverage reporting, including DNSFilter's Roaming Client enforcement.
  • Support the Security team's rollout of endpoint security tooling.
  • Own hardware lifecycle from procurement to disposal, including zero-touch enrollment, asset tagging, provisioning, returns, redeployment, and certified recycling.
  • Maintain accurate device inventory reconciling with headcount, MDM, and Finance.
  • Manage hardware warranty, repair, replacement, refresh cycles, and associated budgets.
  • Own secure device retirement, including wiping, certified disposal, and documentation.
  • Own device recovery from departing employees and contractors.
  • Own the full inventory of business applications, including those outside SSO.
  • Manage software licenses against usage, reclaim unused licenses, and handle renewals.
  • Own the IT budget, including building, forecasting, and explaining spend variations.
  • Own IT vendor relationships and contracts.
  • Own the technology in the Tampa office, including the Ubiquiti stack (UniFi network, wifi, Access, Protect cameras).
  • Own physical access and surveillance systems in partnership with People Ops and Security.
  • Own conference room AV, printers, and shared office equipment.
  • Ensure reliable in-office and hybrid meeting experiences.
  • Own the Zendesk helpdesk, including intake, taxonomy, priority definitions, SLAs, and customer satisfaction measurement.
  • Report key IT metrics monthly and explain significant changes.
  • Publish a service catalog outlining IT services, request processes, and expected outcomes.
  • Define and run the escalation path for IT incidents.
  • Own IT business continuity planning and execution.
  • Set clear expectations for response, escalation, and after-hours coverage.
  • Extend internal automation for onboarding, offboarding, directory sync, and ticket triage.
  • Utilize AI for deflection and scaling the team.
  • Build integrations and reporting across IT systems for automated compliance evidence.
  • Convert solved tickets into documented runbooks for automation.
  • Implement IT controls defined by Security and provide evidence of their operation.
  • Own the IT side of SOC 2 control operation and audit evidence.
  • Run access reviews through the compliance platform.
  • Escalate configuration decisions with security consequences.
  • Lead the IT integration of acquired companies, including identity, devices, and applications.
  • Develop plans for consolidating onto the company's IT stack.
  • Lead, coach, and grow one Senior IT Support Analyst.
  • Set the operating cadence for reviews and reporting.
