About The Position

Position Summary: The Director, Health Information Management Operations is responsible for the operational leadership and management of all health information management functions. The incumbent is accountable for the clinical quality, operational performance, regulatory compliance, and financial management of HIM services, encompassing medical record storage and retrieval, abstracting and DRG assignment, transcription services, record completion, and release of information. This role directs departmental activities to ensure health information management services are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with health system standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational objectives, supporting the integrity, accessibility, and security of patient health information across the continuum of care. The Director serves as the primary subject matter expert and operational resource for all matters related to health information management. This position provides direct oversight and serves as a role model and primary resource to coworkers and others, maintaining accountability for departmental performance and the financial integrity of health information management operations. The Director exercises wide latitude of authority in managing facility-level and operational HIM functions with limited oversight.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal statutes and regulations governing the management of health information
  • Results oriented attitude with excellent budgeting and financial skills
  • RHIA credentials with the proven ability to successfully manage health information management functions in a tertiary care, teaching environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs and services
  • Computer familiarity using
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to plan strategically
  • Must possess working knowledge of budget, billing, and basic cost accounting function, and Human Resource issues, principles, and concepts
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, as well as internal and external stakeholders at all level across the health system
  • Ability to develop a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to apply sound judgment in ambiguous situations and effectively manage change
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of progressive management responsibility
  • Minimum of 5 year experience in an management leadership role
  • Bachelors degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education, licensure, and relevant experience
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization
