About The Position

The Director, Facilities Management provides operational leadership and strategic oversight for assigned facility or facilities operations, ensuring alignment with UCI Health systemwide initiatives, standards, and priorities. This role is responsible for the comprehensive management of facilities operations, infrastructure, and environment of care functions at assigned facility or facilities, with direct accountability for maintaining a safe, functional, and compliant physical environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The Director is accountable for facility-level operational performance, regulatory and accreditation compliance, and financial stewardship, while implementing and sustaining systemwide facilities strategies and initiatives. This position collaborates closely with leadership, clinical and administrative partners, and system facilities teams to prioritize, plan, and execute capital improvement and facility renovation projects, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and high performance across all sites. The Director provides hands-on leadership and oversight of departmental activities, drives standardization and best practices across the four sites, and ensures that facilities operations support clinical excellence, patient experience, and long-term strategic goals of the health system. The Director, Facilities Management is expected to work onsite and travel regularly to UCI Health facilities and locations to support systemwide operations, leadership engagement, and oversight of facilities activities.Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate professionals or managers. Reviews and approves recommendations for facilities management and related programs. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing facilities management resources. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s). Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

Requirements

Strong organization and project management skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to plan strategically
Must have working knowledge of architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings and modern equipment used in an acute care facility.
Must have experience with the business and practice of best methods for general operation, maintenance and repair of complex medical facilities and building support systems
Must be experienced and knowledgeable with all relevant laws/regulations/codes
Minimum 5 years’ experience of progressive management responsibility in a related setting
Minimum of 1 year experience in an management leadership role in a related setting
Knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements in a hospital setting
Financial management and analysis skills consistent with budgetary responsibilities
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills, including advanced political acumen and skill to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies in a highly political environment
Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent education/experience
Ability to read and correctly interpret complex regulations, contracts, technical documents and policies
Ability to persuade or influence people to take appropriate action
Certified Hospital Facilities Manager (CHFM)
Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

Nice To Haves

Certification from a reputable/recognizable energy resource management programs such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Standards), CEM (Certified Energy Manager) or BEP (Business Energy Professional)
