About The Position

The Director, Graphic Design leads the development of digital-first creative and enterprise visual communications that strengthen and modernize the PTC Therapeutics brand in a highly regulated environment. This role sits at the intersection of brand strategy, creative direction, and hands-on design execution, setting the visual standard for PTC’s digital ecosystem and ensuring it is applied with rigor, consistency, and impact. This role will help evolve and implement PTC’s corporate visual identity system including digital brand guidelines, design frameworks, and scalable templates which translate the brand into compelling content across key channels and formats such as website experiences, social-first content, motion/video, and executive-level presentations. The Director will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders including, but not limited to, Corporate Communications, Marketing, Medical, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Patient Relations, and regional teams to ensure creative alignment and a cohesive visual narrative across audiences, geographies, and priorities. Acting as a strategic thought partner, this role balances corporate storytelling needs with product and pipeline considerations maintaining brand integrity, raising creative standards, and enabling teams to deliver high-quality digital work efficiently. The Director, Graphic Design ensures adherence to relevant regulatory requirements, and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, Visual Communications, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant design experience within biotech/pharma industry, including social/digital design in a regulated or complex environment.
  • Proficiency with modern design applications, such as Adobe CC (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects), Canva, Figma, and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Strong judgment in regulated communications, comfort influencing without authority, and the ability to translate business goals into design solutions that are both strategic and execution-ready.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead brand systems and apply them consistently across digital/social, video, and presentations.
  • Comfort partnering with cross-functional stakeholders and translating strategy into creative output.
  • Working knowledge of regulated review environments and stakeholder management (e.g., MLR processes).
  • Strong interest in turning complex concepts into impactful visuals.
  • Strong digital design (typography, layout, art direction, accessibility-minded design) and the ability to execute while also guiding concept development and creative quality across projects.
  • Keen attention to detail and desire to constantly improve on quality of product.
  • Thrives working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while handling multiple tasks through completion.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve and operationalize the corporate visual identity system (look/feel, typography, color, imagery/illustration) across PTC’s digital ecosystem and translate it into clear usable guidance for internal and external partners.
  • Build and maintain modular, scalable toolkits (templates, design components, digital guidelines, accessibility guidance) that enable efficiencies while protecting brand consistency.
  • Establish quality standards and review processes for corporate-facing creative (digital, social, web, video, events, internal communications).
  • Advance PTC’s digital ecosystem (social & web), make it cohesive, and drive innovation.
  • Lead social-first creative strategy across channels (organic and paid), ensuring content is audience-informed, on-brand, and optimized for platform behaviors.
  • Design (and/or art-direct) social content that ranges from evergreen to daily brand storytelling to major moments/campaigns while balancing conceptual thinking with strong execution.
  • Partner with department leads on content planning, creative briefs, testing/learning, and performance-informed optimization.
  • Guide creative direction for short-form video, motion graphics, and animated explainers, ensuring consistency with the corporate identity.
  • Partner with internal and external partners to deliver polished assets efficiently (storyboards, creative direction, review cycles).
  • Elevate enterprise presentations through strong information design, narrative structure, and on-brand visuals.
  • Define (and enforce) presentation standards and templates; coach internal stakeholders on effective visual communication.
  • Coach and educate departments, employees, external vendors and agencies on PTC’s corporate brand as well as how to work with and use.
  • Serve as a creative liaison to Product Marketing to ensure alignment between corporate brand expression and brand/product campaign needs.
  • Ensure consistency across regions/markets while allowing for smart localization, building frameworks that make “aligned, not identical” execution possible.
  • Be a strategic partner on unmet-need / disease awareness initiatives, helping teams translate strategy into cohesive cross-channel creative.
  • Proactively identify overlap, duplication, and brand risks across initiatives; recommend consolidation and governance where needed.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Communication, Patient Advocacy, Medical/Legal/Regulatory (MLR), Digital, and Commercial partners to deliver compliant, effective creative.
  • Manage external agencies/freelancers as needed (briefing, creative direction, reviews, timelines, budget awareness).
  • Build streamlined creative workflows (brief intake, prioritization, review routing, versioning, asset libraries) to increase throughput and clarity.
  • Create, produce, edit, and annotate design projects, multimedia files, and documents in accordance with specifications.
  • Receive feedback and apply this to continuous improvements in quality output, develop capabilities for innovation and service excellence.
  • Ability to take initiative and understand tasks quickly with minimal supervision.
  • Must be comfortable working with demanding stakeholders under stressful conditions while presenting a positive image in meeting and work sessions.
