GPU Stack Unified Build & Release Platform

About The Position

AMD's AI software stack is moving fast, and keeping pace means shipping complete, validated GPU stack releases to customers as quickly as the software can evolve. This is currently limited by coordination overhead between layers (firmware, kernel driver, ROCm), each with their own build systems, workflows, and no shared release baseline. This role involves building the infrastructure to change that: a unified build and CI platform that treats the complete GPU stack as a single deliverable, built from source, validated together, and releasable on demand. The goal is faster time-to-customer for validated, fully-supported GPU stack releases without sacrificing stability. The Director will own this area end-to-end, leading a team of 5-10 engineers, spending approximately half their time coding and making architecture decisions, and the other half working with executives to sequence the rollout. This is an organizational change effort as much as an engineering one.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated technical leadership at the director or fellow level.
  • Deep technical range across build systems, CI/CD infrastructure, and software release pipelines.
  • Track record of driving large-scale infrastructure or platform modernization across multiple teams with competing priorities.
  • Experience sequencing technical change in a way that protects active product commitments.
  • Executive-level communication skills: able to frame technical tradeoffs as business decisions, build alignment across stakeholders, and hold accountability for outcomes at an organizational level.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing small teams in a greenfield or PoC context.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency with agentic AI workflows (Cursor, Claude, Copilot, etc.) as a personal productivity multiplier and a capability to develop in the team.
  • Experience with firmware, kernel, or embedded software release pipelines and their specific constraints.
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions, self-hosted CI infrastructure, and cloud-based build environments (AWS).
  • Experience driving adoption of shift-left development practices across large engineering organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction for the unified build and release platform, from PoC architecture decisions through phased production rollout.
  • Align executives on a phased rollout strategy that accelerates release velocity without disrupting active product shipments, delivering value incrementally, and mitigating risk.
  • Drive organizational change across firmware, kernel, and ROCm teams to unify build and release processes, align on new workflows, and foster a cultural shift towards shift-left development and trunk health.
  • Directly lead the senior engineers building the platform, including the Build Architect and CI Infrastructure Engineer, making cross-cutting technical calls and ensuring workstreams converge into a coherent system.
  • Contribute to coding at approximately 50% of the time, owning meaningful parts of the platform and setting the bar for how the team works.

Benefits

  • AMD benefits at a glance.
