About The Position

The Director of Government Affairs is responsible for maintaining active awareness of legislative issues, including proposed legislation and public policies that may impact Rady Children's Hospital San Diego, and developing and coordinating strategies to address them. This role works under the direction of the Vice President, Chief Advocacy & Public Policy Officer, and in partnership with the Rady Children’s Advocacy & Public Policy team and external policy advisors, to implement strategies that support Rady Children's Health’s San Diego advocacy agenda, including developing and executing legislative proposals that support health system priorities. The Director will also work with internal and external partners to advocate for policies, practices and resources that advance Rady Children’s mission, and collaborate and amplify the voices of Rady Children's Health clinicians and subject matter experts to inform positions and influence policy. Please note that this position will be based out of San Diego, not Orange.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in government relations and legislative issues.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction.
  • Able to use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Able to think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent.
  • Sedentary - Very light energy level
  • Lift 10 lbs. box overhead.
  • Lift and carry 15 lbs.
  • Push/pull 20 lbs. cart.

Nice To Haves

  • Seven (7) years of experience in government relations and legislative issues.
  • 2+ years of Children’s Hospital or Healthcare experience.
  • Master’s Degree, MBA or MHA
