About The Position

This role leads the expansion of ASP Global's direct and indirect sourcing coverage, building category strategies and cost savings capability in categories with limited existing sourcing infrastructure. The Director, Global Sourcing stands up the Indirect Sourcing function from the ground up, drives strategy and savings delivery across direct spend categories, and partners with the Sr. Director, Global Sourcing to build strategic sourcing capability within the US and China Sourcing team. The role directly manages a US-based Sourcing Specialist and a China-based Sourcing Manager and works in a functional/dotted-line capacity with the remainder of the China Sourcing team. Periodic international travel is required to support supplier negotiations, category development, and China team engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in global sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, including direct materials and/or finished goods category management.
  • Demonstrated experience building a sourcing function, category, or process from limited or no existing infrastructure.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing sourcing strategies that deliver measurable cost savings and improved supplier performance.
  • People leadership experience, including managing through influence in matrixed or dotted-line reporting structures.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and teams spanning the US and Asia.
  • Ability to travel internationally several times per year.
  • Deep understanding of global sourcing principles, category strategy development, and market trends.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, size, and execute cost savings opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships cross-culturally, including within a Chinese business environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop others, including through indirect/dotted-line relationships.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and deliver results on time.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Experience with sourcing/procurement systems (e.g., SAP) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive ASP Global's sourcing strategy across direct materials/finished goods and newly established indirect categories, aligning category plans with business objectives.
  • Identify, quantify, and deliver cost savings and total-cost-of-use improvement opportunities across an expanding base of addressable spend, partnering with Finance to validate and track realized savings.
  • Build ASP Global's Indirect Sourcing function where none previously existed; defining category scope across functions such as IT, Legal, Marketing, and Administrative Services, and establishing sourcing processes, supplier evaluation criteria, and category ownership as categories are brought under management.
  • Lead RFx processes, cost/market analysis, negotiations, and supplier selection for assigned direct and indirect categories, optimizing total landed cost.
  • Directly manage a US-based Sourcing Specialist and a China-based Sourcing Manager, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Partner with the Sr. Director, Global Sourcing in a functional/dotted-line capacity across the remainder of the China Sourcing team, focused specifically on building strategic sourcing capability that complements the Sr. Director's strengths.
  • Travel to China several times per year to build working relationships with the China team, support live negotiations, and conduct supplier/site engagement.
  • Establish a recurring cadence of remote category reviews, coaching sessions, and joint work on live negotiations with the China Sourcing team between site visits, ensuring capability-building continues independent of travel schedule.
  • Develop and institutionalize strategic sourcing tools, frameworks, and training (category strategy templates, negotiation playbooks, supplier evaluation models) to raise sourcing capability across the broader US and China organization.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance across assigned categories, ensuring continuity of supply, quality, and cost competitiveness.
  • Identify and mitigate supply and category risk, including geopolitical and regulatory considerations relevant to a globally concentrated, Asia-heavy supply base.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators to measure sourcing effectiveness, including growth in total addressable spend under management, and report progress to the Vice President, Global Sourcing.
  • Provide input on legal and commercial contract terms, indemnification, and intellectual property considerations for assigned categories.
  • Ensure sourcing activities comply with relevant regulations and company policy.
