Director, Global Sourcing

About The Position

This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a sourcing and procurement function for a newly formed, standalone joint-venture with global operations and ~$400M+ in annual revenues. Historically, sourcing, category strategy, and supplier management for this business were embedded within a larger corporate enterprise function. As we stand up independent operations, we need a hands-on leader who can design and own the sourcing capability end-to-end — combining strategic enterprise-level thinking with direct execution-level ownership of contracts, category management, RFPs, and vendor relationships. The role reports to the VP of Global Manufacturing & Operations with the majority of focus being on supporting manufacturing, facilities, technology (hardware/software/systems/services). Because this is a leaner, standalone organization rather than a large multi-segment enterprise, this single role will own both the strategic sourcing agenda and its operational execution. You will lead a team who will support analytics, execute vendor management, and act as category/commodity specialists. You and your team will partner closely with our General Counsel function for support on contracting, trade compliance, and supplier risk.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain, ideally within manufacturing, industrial, or print/publishing/packaging environments
  • 5+ years leading a team, including direct reports in analytics, vendor management, or category sourcing
  • Demonstrated track record of measurable cost savings and cost avoidance across direct and indirect spend categories
  • Hands-on experience running full-cycle RFPs/RFx events and negotiating supplier contracts
  • Experience with sourcing/procurement (S2C) platforms and spend-analytics tools
  • Experience partnering with a General Counsel or legal function on contract negotiation, trade compliance, and supplier risk
  • Global supply-market knowledge and commodity risk management, ideally including paper, ink/chemicals, freight/parcel, and packaging
  • Comfort operating with international suppliers and sites
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience standing up or scaling a sourcing function in a standalone, carve-out, joint-venture, or newly independent organization strongly preferred
  • MBA preferred.
  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management), CPM, APICS/CPIM, PMP, or Six Sigma — held or actively pursued.
  • Familiarity with S2C/procurement platforms (e.g. SAP Ariba), spend-analytics tools, ERP systems, and contract lifecycle management tools; working knowledge of trade/tariff compliance and ESG/forced-labor supplier due diligence frameworks.
  • Print, publishing, binding, or packaging industry sourcing experience
  • Prior carve-out, divestiture, or joint-venture stand-up experience
  • Experience sourcing technology and business-systems categories in addition to direct manufacturing materials

Responsibilities

  • Stand up the joint venture's sourcing operating model; build category strategies for direct materials (paper, ink/toner, binding, packaging, etc) and indirect spend (freight/postage, facilities, tech hardware, tech software/business systems, professional services, etc); establish spend visibility where none previously existed as a standalone entity.
  • Stand up the joint venture's sourcing policies, approval authorities, etc.
  • Personally lead and oversee execution of major RFx events and competitive bids; negotiate pricing, terms, and service levels directly with strategic suppliers; ensure a disciplined, repeatable sourcing process across the organization.
  • Own supplier relationship and supplier quality management for critical print-manufacturing and business-systems vendors; monitor supplier performance, resolve escalations, and build a resilient, diversified supply base for a newly independent company.
  • Drive measurable cost savings and cost-avoidance targets; build should-cost models and category benchmarks; apply Lean/continuous-improvement methods to sourcing and procurement processes.
  • Analyze and model total procurement costs across categories to identify opportunities to decrease expenditure; contribute to the annual pipeline of procurement initiatives in partnership with the financial planning process; develop negotiation strategies that secure profitable deals with acceptable risk and best-in-class rates and terms.
  • Track global markets and commodities relevant to print manufacturing — paper/pulp , ink and specialty chemicals, freight/logistics, and packaging — and translate market movement into sourcing strategy, budget input, and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with the General Counsel function on contract drafting and negotiation, trade/tariff compliance, and supplier-related risk (including forced-labor/ESG due diligence); route legal review and escalate supplier disputes appropriately, since contract law and compliance sit with the General Counsel's office rather than within this role.
  • Direct an analytics resource to build spend and supplier dashboards; select and deploy sourcing/procurement (S2C) tools appropriate for a standalone organization; report sourcing performance and savings to the VP of Global Manufacturing & Operations and other JV leadership.
  • Own sourcing and vendor management for the technology and business-systems spend needed to stand up the joint venture independently (e.g., IT hardware/software, business applications, telecom), coordinating closely with IT and Finance stakeholders.
  • Hire, lead, and develop a small, high-performing team with direct reports covering sourcing analytics, vendor management, and category execution; build the team's capabilities as the organization scales as a standalone entity.
  • Lead the transition of sourcing-related contracts, systems, and supplier relationships out of the seller's enterprise environment and into the new joint venture, ensuring continuity of supply and no disruption to manufacturing operations.
