About The Position

This role is for a Director, Global Master Data Management (MDM) Governance within the Orthopaedics division of Johnson & Johnson, which is planned to become a standalone company called DePuy Synthes. The position is responsible for owning the Master Data Management policy, domain-to-platform assignment, quality standards, and decision rights. The role supports the design and implementation of data systems and infrastructure to provide a strategic framework for the global orthopedics organization, ensuring alignment with enterprise data strategies. The Director will oversee all data, system, and infrastructure MDM strategic processes, projects, and day-to-day operations supporting Commercial, Supply Chain, R&D, and Corporate Systems, and their integration with Enterprise Data Warehouses, Enterprise Data Lakes, and business solution environments. The role involves leading a team and partners to deliver on landscape priorities, providing leadership and mentorship, and maintaining strong relationships with partners to enhance their understanding of MDM processes. Key responsibilities include establishing metrics for process improvements, making policy recommendations to IT leadership, partnering with internal teams for requirements definition and issue resolution, leading system improvement initiatives, and ensuring proactive engagement with executive leadership. The role also includes supporting functions in data access tools, content education, training, and tool development. The position will contribute to scaling the DePuy Synthes MDM ecosystem, ensuring a high-quality data environment, and enabling data-driven insights.

Requirements

  • BS, BA degree (Business/IT related preferred), MBA or MS
  • Minimum - 10+ years work experience required, preferable in related field
  • Prior people management experience required
  • Creating an Enterprise or Business specific Master Data Management Strategy that supports multi-faceted data architecture, data governance framework and AI Data readiness.
  • Consistent track record of leading or mentoring teams to achieve significant quality and process improvements.
  • Experience developing training materials and instructing others at all levels required.
  • Strong Project/Account management and Testing Strategy skills with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives in a dynamic environment with tight timelines are required.
  • Proven success in working with an Outsource partners and leading projects on-time and on budget is required.
  • Experience with Master Data Management, Supply Chain, R&D, Corporate, and Commercial Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Owner of the Global Master Data Management data landscape.
  • Responsible for continuous assessment and data harmonization of the needs within the organization that support specific needs to optimally drive business objectives.
  • Owner of the Global Master Data Management systems landscape.
  • Responsible for continuous assessment of the needs within the orthopedic organization and leading a managed team and partners to deliver on landscape priorities.
  • Provide Leadership and mentorship to the associates within the Global Master Data Management organization.
  • Ensure that all team members have the necessary technical and business skills to successfully meet their business objectives.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with partners, developing their MDM knowledge and understanding of Global Master Data Management processes and capabilities.
  • Establish / Maintain metrics to help drive process improvements around the respected MDM domains and respective environment.
  • Make independent decisions and present process/policy recommendations to Depuy Synthes Information Technologies Leadership.
  • Partner with internal teams to understand requirements definition and gathering for any programs interfacing with the respected Enterprise Data Warehouses, Enterprise Data Lake and business solution environments within areas of responsibility.
  • Partner with the internal organization to identify and resolve deficiencies in all aspects of department systems and data capabilities.
  • Responsible for developing and leading systems improvement initiatives across Master Data Management systems to either drive efficiencies or improve performance of operational capability.
  • Maintain high levels of engagement with all Executive Leaders, Directors and Managers to ensure proactive engagement in planning and executing improvement efforts.
  • Lead support of functions with respect to use and understanding of tools to access data in Master Data Management applications inclusive of content education, training and tool development and enhancement.
  • Responsible for communicating related issues or opportunities to next management level.
  • For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable.
  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
