About The Position

The purpose of this role is to manage operations within a business area, maintaining processes, risk management initiatives, and compliance with relevant regulators. The Director Global Markets Operations will be responsible for identifying trends and opportunities for improvement, managing operations for a business area to promote efficient processes, risk management, and compliance initiatives. This role involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, management of operational professionals, and development of KPIs to measure effectiveness. The position also requires ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to customer experience, fostering a safe environment for feedback, and managing attrition through retention initiatives. The Director will provide significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives, influence policy and procedures, and plan/manage complex strategic projects. They will lead a large team or sub-function, embedding a performance culture, or lead organization-wide projects as an individual contributor, acting as a deep technical expert. This role involves training, guiding, and coaching specialists, providing information affecting long-term profits, organizational risks, and strategic decisions. The Director will offer expert advice to senior management, manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation, escalate breaches appropriately, and foster compliance with regulations. A focus on the external environment, regulators, and advocacy groups is expected, along with demonstrating extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/Group. Maintaining broad knowledge of industry theories, practices, and market developments is crucial. The role requires interpretative thinking, advanced analytical skills, management authority for significant and strategic decisions, and negotiation/influence with senior stakeholders. The Director will act as a principal contact point for key clients and counterparts and serve as a spokesperson for the function and business division. Requirements

  • Extensive Margin Operations expertise with deep technical knowledge across OTC, Prime Brokerage, Listed Derivatives, Collateral Management and Exposure Management processes.
  • Strong Prime Brokerage and Liquid Financing experience, including PB Margin operations, financing products, client servicing models and the operational infrastructure required to support business growth.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale transformation programmes, combining operating model design, process re-engineering, technology delivery and organisational change management within complex global environments.
  • Risk and control focused leader with a successful track record delivering risk remediation programmes, strengthening control frameworks and reducing operational risk while supporting business growth.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing capability, able to partner effectively across Front Office, Product, Technology, Risk, Finance and Operations functions to deliver strategic, business-wide initiatives and client-centric outcomes.
  • Experience developing and executing operating strategies aligned to business growth objectives, balancing commercial priorities, regulatory requirements, client outcomes and operational scalability.
  • Senior Director within Global Margin Operations, reporting directly to the Global Head of Margin Operations, with accountability for a critical and strategically important area supporting the continued growth of Barclays' Prime and Liquid Financing franchise.

Responsibilities

  • Identification of trends and opportunities to improve areas and develop new process and procedures through the monitoring and analysis of operation data and performance metrices.
  • Management of operations for a business area and promote efficient processes, risk management and compliance initiatives to support the bank's operations.
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders (including business leaders, project manager and SMEs) and external stakeholders (including vendors and service providers) to support business operations and promote alignment with the bank's objectives and SLAs.
  • Management of operational professionals and provide guidance, coaching and support to improve colleagues' delivery quality.
  • Management and development of KPIs to measure the effectiveness of operation functions, utilising data and technology to support the identification of areas that require improvement.
  • Compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to customer experience.
  • Creation of a safe environment for colleagues to speak up, actively and regularly encourage and solicit feedback to ensure people agenda remains focused on the right areas.
  • Management of attrition by working closely with HR in implementing retention initiatives for work force.
  • Manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide.
  • Manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business.
  • Lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally.
  • Train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions.
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.

  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.

  • Lead a team of approximately 20 FTE across Margin Operations, with responsibility for service delivery, operating performance, risk management, talent development, and execution of the US Margin strategy.
  • Oversee approximately 20 FTE across the US, London and Singapore for the Prime Brokerage (PB) and GNA Margin Operations sub-service, responsible for the end-to-end operating model supporting a fast-growing Prime Brokerage and Liquid Financing business.
  • Lead the global Prime Margin build-out programme, partnering closely with Front Office, Product, Technology and Operations leadership to design and implement the target operating model required to support significant business growth, new client onboarding and increased market activity.
  • Drive a multi-year investment agenda, including substantial hiring and organisational expansion across regions, alongside a large-scale infrastructure, automation and process enhancement programme focused on scalability, control, operational resilience and client experience.
  • Help shape the strategic direction, investment priorities, operating model evolution and transformation agenda for the wider Global Margin Operations function as a member of the Global Margin Operations Senior Leadership Team.
