Director, FP&A

Andela
Remote

About The Position

The Director of FP&A is a strategic partner responsible for shaping how Andela plans, invests, and makes decisions as we scale. This role blends analytical rigor, strong business judgment, and clear storytelling to help the executive team navigate complexity and tradeoffs with confidence. You will own the company’s financial planning engine end-to-end and operate as a deeply embedded partner to leaders across the company. Success in this role requires someone who thrives in ambiguity, exercises strong judgment, and takes full ownership of outcomes. This is a role for a steady, proactive operator who sees around corners and brings clarity to complex decisions. As an Andelan, you’ll serve as a role model for the rest of the company, you do not need to manage people to be a leader at Andela! Think about the feedback your peers typically give you – if it usually sounds like the below, we want to hear from you. Low ego, low drama: You share credit, take blame. You like being wrong because it means someone else had an even better idea. One team mentality: You break silos across teams. You put the company and mission first above your team alone. Great listener, hungry for feedback: You’re always seeking to improve – our product, our business, yourself. You solicit diverse opinions and deeply listen. Owner, not renter: You see a problem, you fix it or find someone who will. The buck stops with you. Team-player: You roll up your sleeves and get scrappy. You do this by proactively collaborating with your team while actively engaging in important details that matter. Business problem solver: You’re not just a functional expert; you consistently get praise for approaching your function through the lens of solving business problems.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience across corporate finance, FP&A, strategic finance, or related roles, including at least 5 years in corporate/strategic finance at a high-growth B2B technology or SaaS company
  • 2+ years of people management experience, building and leading high-performing teams
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with modern FP&A tools
  • Exceptional storyteller, capable of distilling complex analyses into strategic insights for executive and board audiences with clarity and precision; ability to influence across all levels without direct authority
  • A collaborative, proactive, curious, and growth mindset with a passion for problem solving and driving impact
  • Systems thinker who connects financial drivers to business strategy

Nice To Haves

  • This role is probably not for you if your recent years of experience have been spent: As a business partner to one function inside a large organization
  • As primarily a coach (i.e. people manager, reviewer of your team’s work product) versus player or player/coach (as much in the details and weeds as you are in the strategy)
  • Optimizing inherited, mature processes versus first-principles building

Responsibilities

  • Own the corporate financial model, including the full three-statement build (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and the scenario planning architecture layered on top of it.
  • Lead all end-to-end planning cycles (annual operating plan, monthly rolling forecasts, long-range plan), from creating the process to building templates through executive review and Board approval
  • Own the monthly business review to diagnose financial health of the business (budget vs actual analysis, variance drivers, and forward-looking implications)
  • Build capital allocation and investment frameworks to build business cases for growth initiatives, evaluate experiments, and tradeoffs with financial discipline
  • Build unit economics, cohort, and scenario analysis to identify optimization opportunities and inform strategic decisions
  • Partner with GTM, Data, and RevOps on revenue and pipeline forecasting; proactively identify risks and opportunities to achieving company targets
  • Prepare clear, investor-ready narratives that connect financial performance, operating drivers, and forward-looking strategy
  • Manage one Finance Business Partner
