About The Position

RFA Bank of Canada is seeking a Director, Financial Planning & Analysis. This is a high-impact, highly visible role responsible for supporting the planning and forecasting cycles, financial modeling, and quantifying the effectiveness of the company’s strategic initiatives. The position reports to the VP Finance and is crucial for delivering on key strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA designation
  • 6-8 years of progressive FP&A and finance experience
  • Experience in the financial services industry is a plus
  • 3+ years of people leadership (direct or indirect) and team management

  • Strong knowledge of banking operations, financial regulations, and risk management
  • Excellent analytical, budgeting, modeling, and forecasting skills
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and other financial software
  • Strong communication skills to explain financial performance to finance and non-finance stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Support the annual financial planning cycle, including modeling, obtaining and vetting assumptions from revenue-generating business units, and collecting/challenging expense information from departments.
  • Collaborate with department heads to set financial targets.
  • Develop and maintain accurate financial forecasts to guide executive decision-making and assess the impact of various economic scenarios.
  • Ensure forecast assumptions are updated, relevant, and agreed upon by business unit leaders.
  • Proactively identify forecast gaps compared to the plan and notify management with proposals for closing them.
  • Manage FTE models and contribute to overhead expense analytics, providing insights to internal business stakeholders and budget owners.
  • Support the ICAAP process by modeling and stress testing scenarios, ensuring stakeholder agreement on assumptions and inputs.
  • Support the automation and leveraging of software and technology enhancements in planning, forecasting, and business analysis.
  • Oversee the collection, validation, and management of financial data for modeling, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Identify opportunities for automation of FP&A functions in collaboration with the Director, Finance Data and Transformation.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including variance, trend, and scenario modeling, to identify key financial drivers and performance indicators.
  • Prepare internal management, board performance reporting packages, and forecasting packages within tight deadlines.
  • Perform full analysis of P&L and Balance Sheet line items, focusing on actuals vs. targets/plan and actuals vs. forecast.
  • Liaise with the Controller to understand accounting changes and the impact of actuals on forecast and performance reporting.
  • Analyze various business initiatives against financial targets and KPIs.
  • Support product-based P&Ls, including direct and indirect cost allocations.
  • Measure and provide business insights into the company's strategic initiatives to support decision-making.
  • Support modeling processes and techniques to connect activity-based revenue and expense margins to overhead costs.
  • Assist risk management with ICAAP and stress testing programs.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance policies, standards, and processes.
  • Complete regulatory, compliance, and risk management training.
  • Complete and review model documentation in conjunction with the Senior Analyst.
