About The Position

Destination Canada is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to serve as a key partner to the Executive Director, Finance and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This role leads the organization’s enterprise-wide budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning functions, delivering timely, high-quality insights that inform decision-making across Senior Management, the Board, and government partners. As a critical leader within the Finance team, the Director is accountable for the organization’s annual budget and multi-year financial planning cycle, providing forward-looking analysis that drives agility, transparency, and effective resource allocation. The role also champions the modernization of FP&A through the adoption of advanced technologies, automation, and AI-enabled tools to enhance modelling accuracy, performance measurement, and enterprise-wide insights. The Director leads and develops the Financial Officer team, champions high standards in financial modelling, and serves as a trusted advisor across the organization.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized university with a degree with a professional accounting designation, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in accounting and finance, with a strong foundation in financial management and analysis.
  • At least 3 years of managerial experience, with a proven track record in people management and team development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and ERP systems such as SAP; experience with dashboards, analytics tools, or AI-supported planning platforms considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of financial management and accounting principles, budgeting, forecast preparation, and variance and trend analysis.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities relevant to modern FP&A practices.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex financial information to stakeholders.
  • Experience in strategic planning, risk management, and organizational development.
  • Knowledge of foreign exchange risk and cash management.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures in the areas of finance, procurement and contracting.
  • Ability to navigate complex and sensitive financial scenarios and information with the appropriate levels of discretion.
  • Ability to evaluate, adopt, and apply new technologies, automation tools, and AI-driven capabilities that enhance forecasting accuracy, reporting efficiency, and decision support.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, requirements, establish priorities, coordinate work and multi-task.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate a high-performing team.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in a Crown Corporation or Government organization is highly desirable, with understanding of government appropriations and related reporting to agencies such as ISED and TBS.

Responsibilities

  • Leads Destination Canada’s financial planning and analysis function, partnering closely with the Executive Director, Finance and the CFO.
  • Owns and directs the end-to-end annual budgeting process and multi-year planning cycle, ensuring alignment with executive strategy and priorities.
  • Influences financial decision-making across the organization, identifying priorities, risks, and opportunities as a senior thought leader.
  • Prepares and delivers budget and financial reports for Senior Management, the Board, and Board Committees.
  • Leads quarterly forecasting and variance analysis, providing clear interpretation of financial trends, performance drivers, and impacts.
  • Leads development of advanced financial models, dashboards, and performance measurement tools, including new technologies and AI-enabled solutions that improve accuracy, speed, and insight quality.
  • Conducts confidential HR-related modelling—including salary budgets, workforce planning, and collective bargaining scenarios—in collaboration with HR and the CFO.
  • Oversees ad hoc analysis and formal responses to government agencies such as ISED and TBS.
  • Leads financial and cross-functional initiatives that enhance organizational agility, operational effectiveness, and financial discipline.
  • Oversees upgrades and improvements to financial systems (ERP, invoicing, expense management, procurement, dashboards), including integration of automation and AI-supported capabilities to strengthen data integrity and reporting precision.
  • Evaluates and champions new digital tools, automation opportunities, and analytics technologies that modernize FP&A workflows.
  • Directs, mentors, and develops the Financial Officer team, ensuring strong performance, technical competency, and professional growth.
  • Oversees recruitment, workload management, and performance evaluations.
  • Sets clear expectations, instills discipline in financial processes, and fosters a culture of innovation, accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
