Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 9 years of experience with Broker or Carrier side with a focus on Health and Benefits.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
  • High degree of understanding of employee benefits funding mechanisms.
  • Must be familiar with carrier reporting systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both orally and in writing).
  • Ability to build meaningful professional relationships.
  • Ability to effectively manage and mentor individuals as well as a team.
  • Must be amiable when encountering difficult situations with clients, vendors, co-workers and direct reports.

  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting principles and of the employee benefits field.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage a team of professionals who provide guidance and assistance to account teams and clients using financial decision-making tools.
  • Conduct client-facing meetings to effectively represent the underwriting team regarding core services.
  • Act as a mentor/coach to management positions.
  • Involvement with strategic planning meetings for budgets and financial implications for clients, along with consulting and account management teams.
  • Identify the need for project work based on dominant priorities of the division and region, and articulate the need for projects to management.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organization by participating in and promoting carrier functions and activities to build and maintain positive relationships with outside vendors.
  • Participate in and contribute to divisional and corporate workgroups, providing insight and guidance on all fundamental underwriting services as well as tools and best practices.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled underwriting team meetings and regional staff calls.
  • Develop and distribute appropriate communication to internal staff, clients, corporate teams, and industry peers.
  • Assist in the sales process through production of financial projections on large accounts and related underwriting analysis.
  • Oversee coordination of and help conduct underwriting team training programs for staff/clients.
  • Serve as a resource to branch office staff to contribute toward measurable ROI of services and retention of clients.
  • Mentor, assist, educate, and support the development of staff.
  • Delegate to staff to ensure efficient time utilization.
