About The Position

The Director, Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial health and strategy of the Safety & Enforcement division of Quarterhill. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this position provides strategic financial guidance, ensures robust financial planning and analysis, and oversees S&E accounting operations, budgeting, compliance, and reporting. The Director, Finance partners with senior leadership to support business decisions and drive sustainable growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • CPA or equivalent professional designation required
  • 8–12+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in IFRS
  • Exceptional analytical and independent problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen and strategic thinking
  • Advanced knowledge of financial modeling and analysis
  • Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., ERP platforms) and advanced Excel skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the financial close process.
  • Manage the preparation and reporting of standard monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the S&E division.
  • Develop and deliver analyses supporting the variances to budget and prior periods, reviewing balance sheet, P&L and ensuring accuracy in financial statements.
  • Oversee preparation and finalization of statutory financial statements.
  • Review and evaluate cost reduction opportunities open to the division and the company.
  • Contribute to financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
  • Create ad hoc reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with AR/AP team to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data entry and process support.
  • Collaborate with the Project Finance team and Operations Support, who provides project accounting and analysis as it relates to resource scheduling, planning, and utilization.
  • Work with Corporate FP&A team on budgetary process for the S&E division. Review the annual project and departmental budgets (in conjunction with Executives and Senior Managers) as well as quarterly and ad-hoc forecasts needed based on contract changes.
  • Establish and monitor daily cash balance and cash forecasting process. Ensure that sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational and capital requirements.
  • Strategize optimal vendor payment schedule and work with the Corporate team to obtain approval for outgoing vendor payments.
  • Provide input on short- and long-term liquidity forecasting.
  • Manage tax preparation and filing process.
  • Oversee federal and state tax prepared by third party vendors.
  • Manage the preparation and filing of sales, corporate and other tax forms as required.
  • Maintain relationship with insurance broker, acting as point of contact between S&E and broker for policy questions, updates, and renewals.
  • Work with Corporate team on procurement of short- and long-term insurance policies including location permits.
  • Oversee Provincial and local operational license compliance.
  • Manage S&E’s bonding process.
  • Monitor expiration, renewal and return of bonding.
  • Provide input on pricing and proposal process as it relates to bonding capabilities.
  • Participate in and manage regular external audits, providing artifacts for evaluation as well as SME support.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws, and audit standards.
  • Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
