About The Position

Providence is seeking a mission-minded Director, Finance to lead capital planning activities while providing financial oversight for assigned ministries. This role provides financial leadership for enterprise capital allocation, investment prioritization, and long-range capital planning, supporting Providence’s strategic, operational, and mission objectives. The successful candidate will operate with a high degree of independence, navigating ambiguity, driving data-informed decision-making, and influencing executive leaders on deployment of limited capital resources. In parallel, the Director is responsible for financial oversight of assigned ministries, including monitoring performance, supporting productivity and supply chain targets, and partnering with operational leaders to achieve financial and strategic objectives. This role serves as a key liaison across finance, accounting, payroll, and operational teams, while supporting capital project execution, ministry budgeting, and financial planning. Responsibilities also include development of dashboards, tracking internal audit findings, and leading special projects across both ministry and regional finance domains. The Director leads a high-performing team, providing coaching, development, and accountability, and fostering an inclusive environment aligned with Providence values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8 years in a leadership role or capacity
  • 10 or more years of closely related experience
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles and practices with the ability to apply them effectively
  • Ability to use mathematical methods and formulas to solve complex problems
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial and operational data
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and determine appropriate solutions
  • Ability to analyze findings from investigations and develop recommendations

Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization’s capital planning process, including development of enterprise capital plans, prioritization frameworks, and investment recommendations
  • Partner with operational, clinical, and functional leaders to evaluate capital requests and assess strategic alignment
  • Design and construct financial analyses including ROI, cash flow modeling, scenario modeling, affordability analysis, and risk assessment
  • Develop governance processes and executive-ready materials for capital decision-making
  • Monitor capital portfolio performance and recommend adjustments to optimize capital deployment
  • Align strategic priorities, operational needs, and financial constraints in capital allocation decisions
  • Assist the Service Area Chief Financial Officer and senior leaders in financial oversight of assigned ministries
  • Monitor ministry financial performance and support achievement of financial targets
  • Review monthly financial statements to ensure accurate reflection of operational and clinical services
  • Assist with financial statement preparation, including contractual analysis, revenue recognition, and expense accruals
  • Support development of ministry budgets and long-term financial strategies
  • Perform budget variance analysis and support improvement planning
  • Coordinate monthly financial review processes with ministry leadership
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to enable performance visibility
  • Support productivity management through benchmarking, target setting, and staffing matrix implementation
  • Analyze service line (Institute) financial performance to inform operational decisions
  • Participate in ministry management meetings and cross-functional planning discussions
  • Support facilitation and financial oversight of capital projects
  • Track and support achievement of internal audit recommendations
  • Lead special projects at ministry and regional levels
  • Collaborate across finance teams to implement best practices and system-wide initiatives
  • Ensure financial processes align with regulatory, accreditation, and compliance requirements
  • Develop and lead a high-performing finance team through coaching, mentoring, and performance management
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across finance, clinical, operational, and executive leadership
