We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Director of Finance Insurance to lead and evolve an enterprise-wide program that protects our patients, people, and assets—while supporting innovation and growth across the system. Director, Finance Insurance This highly visible leadership role will shape and oversee the organization’s enterprise risk management strategy with a concentrated focus on Property & Casualty programs. Serving as a key advisor to executive leadership, this individual will drive risk mitigation strategies, optimize insurance program performance, and lead financial recovery efforts—ensuring organizational resilience in an increasingly complex healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong financial acumen, and a proven ability to influence across diverse stakeholders while advancing a culture of proactive risk management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Seven to ten years’ experience as/in Property and Casualty Broker, Corporate Risk Management, Property and Casualty Insurance or related industries with five years supervisory experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of product development methodology and facilitation
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing and administering Property and Casualty Insurance Plans
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Successful record of accomplishment in leading and effecting change
  • Management skills
  • Customer service and marketing skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning, design, and execution of an enterprise-wide corporate risk management program
  • Oversee the placement, optimization, and management of the Property & Casualty insurance portfolio, including self-insured and captive programs
  • Evaluate enterprise risk exposures and develop strategies to safeguard organizational assets and minimize financial loss
  • Direct insurance purchasing, consulting partnerships, claims management, and administration of all insurance lines
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance on the organization’s captive insurance program(s)
  • Lead financial recovery initiatives related to property and casualty losses, including FEMA and other federal assistance programs
  • Drive due diligence efforts for acquisitions and oversee post-integration risk management strategies, ensuring optimal coverage, cost efficiency, and standardization
  • Partner with Medical School affiliates and external partners to assess and manage areas of shared risk
  • Serve as a key collaborator with Legal Affairs on insurance, indemnification, and liability provisions—negotiating favorable contractual terms
  • Represent Finance on system-wide committees, including Institutional Claims, Environment of Care, and Workplace Safety initiatives
  • Establish departmental goals, monitor performance, and implement strategies to achieve operational excellence
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership to support financial planning, variance analysis, and annual budgeting processes
  • Manage external brokers, consultants, and vendors while serving as the organization’s lead interface with the Property & Casualty insurance market
  • Leverage data analytics and emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance risk insights and operational efficiency
  • Lead, develop, and mentor team members, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture
