About The Position

The Director Federal Government Affairs will develop and implement a federal government affairs strategy that advances organizational priorities and supports patient-focused outcomes. This role involves monitoring and interpreting legislative, regulatory, and federal political trends to provide timely and actionable insights for the business. The Director will shape and influence policy outcomes through direct engagement, coalition-building, and targeted advocacy initiatives. They will represent the organization before the U.S. Congress, cultivate relationships with policymakers, and build partnerships with trade associations, industry coalitions, and patient advocacy organizations. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with internal teams, serving as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, and leading the execution of the federal Political Action Committee (PAC) strategy. Ensuring compliance with all federal lobbying, ethics, and disclosure requirements is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, public health, or related field
  • 7 years' experience in federal government affairs, public policy, PAC, fundraising, campaigns, or Capitol Hill roles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative processes and the federal policymaking environment.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain high-impact relationships with policymakers and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy issues into business insights.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a federal government affairs strategy that advances organizational priorities and supports patient-focused outcomes.
  • Monitor and interpret legislative, regulatory, and federal political trends to ensure timely and actionable insights for the business.
  • Develop policy materials, including position papers, talking points, and legislative analyses to support advocacy efforts.
  • Shape and influence policy outcomes through direct engagement, coalition-building, and targeted advocacy initiatives.
  • Represent the organization before the U.S. Congress on issues impacting the company and patients.
  • Cultivate and maintain trusted relationships with Members of Congress and congressional staff to advance policy objectives.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with trade associations, industry coalitions, patient advocacy organizations, and other external stakeholders to amplify policy positions.
  • Represent the organization in external forums, working groups, and industry initiatives to influence policy and elevate organizational visibility.
  • Manage external consultants and lobbying resources to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with business, clinical, regulatory, legal, and communications teams to align advocacy strategies with organizational goals and business priorities to coordinate responses to legislative developments.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, providing insights on political dynamics, policy risks, and opportunities.
  • Communicate federal policy developments and business implications clearly and effectively to internal stakeholders through memos, briefings, reports, and presentations.
  • Lead execution of the federal Political Action Committee (PAC) strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities and advocacy goals.
  • Plan and participate in PAC events, fundraising activities, and political engagement opportunities to strengthen relationships with key policymakers.
  • Partner with internal PAC leadership and compliance teams to ensure PAC activities adhere to all legal and ethical requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal lobbying, ethics, and disclosure requirements in partnership with Legal and Compliance functions.
  • Must register as a lobbyist.
