About The Position

This role serves as the right hand to the Senior Director of External Engagement, focusing on the Alliance's coalition, congressional, and state and school leader portfolio. The position is responsible for turning strategy into execution by drafting materials, managing logistics, and tracking follow-up actions to ensure the successful implementation of the SCOTUS coalition, congressional programming, and state association and school leader engagement initiatives. While the Senior Director handles strategy and senior relationships, this role ensures the strategy is delivered through well-prepared briefing materials, organized calls and convenings, timely partner communications, and the capture of useful field intelligence. The position requires excellent judgment, strong writing skills for diverse audiences, and discretion in handling sensitive legal and political information, operating across multiple fast-moving workstreams.

  • Experience supporting a senior leader or executive across complex, multi-workstream priorities.
  • Experience drafting policy or advocacy materials for varied audiences — legal, congressional, and grassroots.
  • Experience preparing materials and logistics for recurring calls or convenings.
  • Familiarity with charter schools, K–12 education policy, or state-level advocacy.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing several parallel workstreams without dropping details.
  • Strong, clear writer who can adapt tone and substance for legal, congressional, and grassroots audiences.
  • Sound judgment and discretion with sensitive legal and political information.
  • Comfortable operating a level below the primary strategy owner — proactive about execution without needing to hold every relationship yourself.
  • Anticipates what the Senior Director will need next and prepares for it before being asked.
