About The Position

S&P Global has recently announced the intent to separate its Mobility Segment into a standalone public company. The Director, External Communications, is a senior storytelling and brand reputation leader responsible for how the company presents itself to the public. This individual owns the company's public narrative, encompassing media relations, thought leadership, executive visibility, and crisis communications. The role is designed for a confident, creative communicator who understands the strategic importance of every external communication to build trust, expand reach, and highlight the company's market distinctiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in external communications, public relations, or corporate communications (both agency and in-house experience valued).
  • Proven track record of securing top-tier media placements and building lasting journalist relationships.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills for various formats, from news releases to thought leadership.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to counsel senior leaders on sensitive communications.
  • Experience managing crisis communications with composure, speed, and strategic clarity.
  • Deep understanding of how external communications intersects with brand strategy, marketing, and business development.
  • Proficiency with media monitoring tools, PR analytics platforms, and digital communications channels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive external communications strategy to enhance brand awareness, strengthen reputation, and support business growth.
  • Manage all media relations, cultivating relationships with journalists and influencers for consistent, high-quality coverage.
  • Act as a key communications advisor to the C-suite, offering guidance on messaging, public positioning, and reputational risks.
  • Lead the creation of executive thought leadership content, including bylined articles, speaking proposals, op-eds, and keynote messaging.
  • Oversee and refine the company's corporate narrative for consistency, differentiation, and resonance across all external channels.
  • Manage crisis communications planning and response to protect and restore brand reputation.
  • Collaborate with marketing, investor relations, legal, and HR to ensure aligned, timely, and on-brand external communications.
  • Manage PR agency relationships, external vendors, and communications budgets, focusing on measurable outcomes.
  • Track media coverage, share of voice, and communications KPIs to refine strategy and demonstrate impact.
  • Build and develop a high-performing communications team focused on excellence, creativity, and accountability.
