About The Position

Under the direction of the Administrator of Instruction, Educational Transformation Office, the director provides instructional program leadership to personnel at historically underserved schools with specific responsibility for the planning, development, assessment, and improvement of instructional programs.

Requirements

  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than three (3) years of which must have been as a school principal
  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time Pre-K-12 public school teaching experience
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential (Out-of-state applicants must qualify for and obtain a California credential prior to selection approval.)
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of successful experience as a principal in an elementary or secondary level setting serving a diverse school community
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience in implementing the California content standards and standards-based instruction for all core subjects at the elementary or secondary level as demonstrated by a successful track record of improved student achievement
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies for core curriculum
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures guiding elementary or secondary schools
  • Knowledge of and experience in the interpretation of assessment data to inform instruction
  • Knowledge of and skill in instructional technology to enhance student learning
  • Successful experience with supervision and evaluation of staff
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the identification and interpretation of needs and the establishment of priorities related to the historically underserved school instructional program; initiates and assists in coordinating the planning, development, and implementation of programs and activities designed to meet such needs and priorities
  • Directs the implementation of staff development programs that ensures high-leverage supports to historically underserved school instructional programs and priorities in other departments
  • Provides oversight of implementation strategies of every school's improvement plan; coaches principals in setting key learning objectives and measurable benchmarks to raise student achievement school-wide
  • Leads the development of a centralized professional development program for regions to implement at school sites
  • Assists in the development of District policy as it relates to the instructional programs at historically underserved schools; publishes and interprets guidelines for instruction and administrative directives regarding school curriculum and instruction; interprets guidelines for courses of study, skills continuums, proficiency testing program, scheduling, organization, retention/promotion, and culmination requirements for the District
  • Analyzes District performance data and assessment results for all grades to identify and direct appropriate interventions to ensure the effectiveness of historically underserved schools educational programs
  • Collaborates with region leadership and central office divisions to ensure coherence in District-wide policies, programs, and professional development
  • Develops reports and presentations for the Board of Education
  • Performs other duties as assigned
