About The Position

The Director of EHS will be the primary architect of the Mt. Carmel EHS program reporting directly to Executive Leadership. The position will provide direction and leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the overall EHS Program and total safety culture. They will strive to develop credible, efficient, and appropriate approaches to managing risk across both shop and civil construction project locations. They will utilize their leadership expertise to build strong teams that collaborate effectively and deliver optimal results. The Director will work with Senior leadership to drive compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as customer and organizational requirements, ultimately reducing injuries and preventing environmental incidents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, environmental engineering, occupational Health and Safety or other related field.
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • 7+ years of safety leadership experience (required)
  • OSHA 30 (required if no certification is held)
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain third-party prequalification programs (e.g. ISNetworld, Avetta)
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in both shop fabrication and construction settings (preferred)
  • 3+ years people management (preferred)
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CHMM or similar certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develops a strategic plan to move Mt. Carmel towards a world-class environmental, health, and safety program.
  • Develops, manages, and implements highly effective strategies for safety programs and training utilizing Human Performance tools and industry best practices to eliminate serious injuries and at-risk behaviors.
  • Develops, manages and implements environmental programs to ensure regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.
  • Responsible for being familiar with field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Promote a strong, field-driven safety culture and ensure consistent standards are maintained across all heavy civil operations
  • Conduct field visits with Operations Leadership to promote a safer work environment, field oversight and compliance.
  • Responsible for having knowledge of and staying abreast of federal and state safety laws and proactively integrating them into the company's EHS programs. (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA)
  • Work jointly with Learning and Development to ensure the development and execution of Mt. Carmel-specific training to aid in the education of the safe and compliant completion of work to reduce the potential for an incident.
  • Work with Operations to conduct incident investigations when warranted, determine probable cause, and make recommendations for corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure third-party and other customer prequalification expectations are completed in a timely manner and maintained.
  • Provides appropriate reporting to the executive leadership team with trending analysis and tangible programs/recommendations to effectively reduce at-risk behaviors.
  • Represents the company professionally to customers and regulatory entities when required
  • Actively participate in industry trade associations, contributing expertise on behalf of the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
