About The Position

The Director, Manufacturing Environmental Health & Safety is the enterprise-level executive accountable for safety and environmental performance across the organization's manufacturing sites. The role owns the strategy, governance, and leadership engagement model needed to build a world-class safety culture in which site and manufacturing leaders visibly own safety outcomes. The Director advances manufacturing network performance across TRIR, LTIR, severity rate, and leading-indicator engagement metrics through disciplined management systems, rigorous incident investigation and prevention, and a leadership cadence that engages plant managers, operations leaders, and front-line supervisors. This highly visible, enterprise-scope role combines deep EHS technical expertise with the ability to influence operations leaders and personally engage when manufacturing sites need support. The Director owns the enterprise EHS management system, manufacturing environmental compliance, risk reduction, industrial hygiene, audit readiness, EHS metrics and executive reporting, and response to significant incidents. The role also builds and leads a high-performing manufacturing EHS organization and partners with HR and Manufacturing Excellence to embed safety expectations in leadership development and manufacturing operations.

  • Ensure the management system supports alignment with recognized standards, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, and applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulatory frameworks.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Excellence and site leadership to embed safety standard work in production standard work.
  • Drive proactive hazard identification and risk reduction across manufacturing processes, equipment, and facilities, prioritizing engineering controls over administrative controls or PPE.
  • Own environmental compliance for manufacturing operations, including permitting, waste management, emissions, and production-related reporting obligations.
  • Ensure industrial hygiene programs, including exposure monitoring, ergonomics, noise, and chemical safety, meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain audit readiness and lead responses to OSHA, EPA, and state-level regulatory inspections at manufacturing locations.
  • Own manufacturing EHS site- and enterprise-level scorecard reporting, trends, and improvement activities.
  • Report safety performance, culture maturity, and improvement roadmaps to executive leadership and the Board, with accountability tied to each manufacturing site.

  • Lead or oversee root cause investigations of significant incidents, ensure corrective actions are closed, and share lessons learned across the enterprise.
  • Ensure consistent incident classification and reporting standards across sites so performance data is comparable and trustworthy.
  • Build and lead a high-performing manufacturing EHS organization, including site EHS leaders, industrial hygienists, safety engineers, and environmental compliance specialists.
  • Develop the technical and coaching capability of the EHS team so members act as trusted advisors and culture-builders to site leadership.
