The Director, Enterprise Planning & Performance will build and manage a small professional team and is charged with strengthening enterprise-wide planning, performance measurement, and transparent reporting on delivery of the Law Society’s Strategic Plan. Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategy, the Director supports the CEO, Executive Committee and Convocation by establishing practical planning rhythms, enterprise-level key performance indicators (KPIs), and disciplined reporting that demonstrates progress against approved strategic objectives in a manner that is clear, transparent and measurable. The Director works in partnership with operational areas across the organization as well as Business Innovation and Operations Management (BIOM), Information Technology (IT) and Finance as an enterprise integrator, helping to connect priorities, surface interdependencies, and support coordinated execution of the Strategic Plan. Working through influence, the Director helps ensure that planning and reporting processes are coherent, proportionate and supportive of effective delivery.

Requirements

University degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Law or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum of 10 years’ progressive related experience gained in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment such as a government, regulatory or complex not-for-profit environment.
At least 5 of which are in a managerial / leadership capacity.
Comprehensive understanding of enterprise planning, performance measurement and reporting in a complex organization, including governance and accountability expectations.
Demonstrated ability to translate strategic priorities into measurable outcomes, performance indicators, and practical reporting products.
Proven ability to synthesize complex information quickly and communicate it clearly in concise, well-written reports and briefings.
Strong facilitation and relationship management skills; ability to influence without authority and coordinate across functions.
Experience working in highly political situations, managing a variety of viewpoints and sensitivities.
Political astuteness and sound judgment to calibrate intervention—staying light-touch where work is on track and increasing support where delivery is at risk.
Capability to lead, develop and manage a team of professionals, including the conducting of annual team member performance reviews.
Demonstrated ability to assess organizational capability and adjust plans as required to successfully carry out organizational strategies.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple agendas, meet changing deadlines, and deliver on a large number of concurrent commitments.
Superior analytical and communication skills coupled with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Computer literacy, including familiarity with email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and dashboards.
Ability to partner effectively with BIOM/IT on data definitions, reporting automation and CRM-enabled insights.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership and expertise to the CEO, Executive Committee, and Convocation to achieve the Law Society’s objectives with respect to enterprise planning, execution discipline, and performance accountability.
Establishes and maintains enterprise planning cycles, templates and routines that translate approved strategic priorities into clear initiatives, milestones and measurable outcomes.
Supports enterprise prioritization, sequencing and trade-off decisions across initiatives and resources.
Coordinates the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of enterprise-level performance measures and progress against the Strategic Plan, supporting the CEO’s and Executive Committee’s accountability to the Board through clear and measurable reporting.
Defines reporting standards to ensure that Strategic Plan accountability is evidence-based, reliable, and consistent over time.
Works in partnership with leaders and teams across the organization as an enterprise integrator to coordinate cross-functional inputs into KPI dashboards, progress updates, and briefing materials that reflect organizational outcomes achieved, delivery risks, mitigation actions, dependencies, and overall confidence in execution of the Strategic Plan.
Hires, trains, develops and evaluates employees accountable to the Director in accordance with organizational policies and best human resources practices.
Fosters a team environment by role modeling leadership behaviour, empowering employees accountable to the Director and building team capability.
Assists the Executive Director with developing and monitoring the team’s budget and project-related expenditures, adjusting plans as required to meet fiscal resource constraints.
Works with various internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams, providing leadership and expertise to team members, ensuring broad information and idea exchange.
Contributes to group decision-making and processes, generating ideas that are strategically sound, integrated with the Law Society’s broader mandate, and achievable in a timely, balanced and fiscally sound manner.
Builds credibility and develops effective working relationships with key groups both internally and externally.
Partners with operational leaders to support coordination without undermining operational authority.
Works closely with Professional Development & Competence and Professional Regulation divisions to understand the core functions of the organization.
Supports strategic relationships and shared learning with other regulatory bodies or sector partners on planning, performance measurement and modernization approaches.
