About The Position

Standex Electronics designs custom-engineered solutions across sensing, switching, and power magnetics for high-reliability applications. Organized around three strategic platforms – EDGE, DETECT, & GRID - we design and manufacture technologies that enable precision sensing and measurement, efficient power conversion, and advanced electronic performance. Our solutions support the global acceleration of electrification, expand energy infrastructure, and power next-generation technologies across critical markets. We drive growth through new product development, deeper engagement with customers’ engineering, geographic expansion, and targeted acquisitions. Our Standex EDGE team is looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our Endurance Design Team in the development and launch of Power Magnetics products. You will have responsibility and oversight of engineers and technical solutions as well as engineering processes and programs that interoperate across our multisite business unit. You will manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities from concept to launch, working cross-functionally with various departments and stakeholders to drive a concurrent engineering methodology to address customer needs and business objectives.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of senior engineering management experience in a design and manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Physics); Advanced degree a plus.
  • Ability to work in an ITAR/CUI environment (i.e. a U.S. Person, or ability to obtain an export license for ITAR/CUI).
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect technical decisions to customer and business outcomes.
  • Change agent that can scale processes to maximize impact
  • Experience leading projects of varying size, scope, and complexity.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience applying lean methodologies

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of related electronics component design architectures, such as transformer/inductor, power electronics, and power magnetics is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ISO systems, such as AS9100.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Execute on the engineering department goals and objectives that align to the EDGE Policy Deployment process.
  • Lead, coach, and manage a multidisciplinary product development team that includes Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineering, Product Engineering, and Document Control.
  • Drive the EVT phase (Engineering Validation Test) of the NPI process to deliver prototype samples, in addition to supporting the Project Management team’s activities in the DVT/PVT phase to production launch.
  • Responsible for the functional department Tools, Systems, and Processes that enable the workflows and support to meet employee, project, and compliance needs.
  • Provide technical leadership across power magnetics programs, guiding requirements, design decisions, risk assessment, and overall engineering execution.
  • Partner with customers, commercial teams, and technical stakeholders to assess feasibility, shape proposals, and translate needs into practical solutions.
  • Lead the development of new products and sustainment of existing designs, ensuring solutions meet customer, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Contribute to business and engineering strategic planning processes, including influencing technology roadmaps, innovation priorities, and new product development.
  • Build and continuously improve engineering standards, processes, and best practices across the organization and multiple sites.
  • Apply lean methods, RCCA, A3 problem solving, and Kaizen to improve engineering effectiveness and organizational performance.
  • Define and use meaningful KPIs to make performance visible, identify gaps, and drive improvement.
  • Set clear goals and expectations, provide timely feedback, and lead performance management and development planning.
  • Navigate conflicts and tradeoffs with a focus on the best outcome for the customer, business, and team.
  • Plan and manage engineering staffing, resources, schedules, and priorities to support current programs and future growth.
  • Drive disciplined program execution and structured problem solving for complex technical and cross-functional challenges.
  • Stay connected to relevant technologies, suppliers, customers, and industry developments through external engagement as needed.
