About The Position

The Director of Engineering manages and directs R&D engineering for the company. The priorities for this position include strategic planning, product design, quality assurance and problem resolution. The Director of Engineering must execute product design to meet company objectives, collaborate with management and develop systems and controls to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred
Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience required
Familiarity with ISO 13485 requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Meticulous record-keeping capability
Excellent prioritization and organizational skills in order to manage multiple responsibilities with little to no supervision
High level of initiative and flexibility in adapting to changing needs of a dynamic work environment
Proficiency with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Responsibilities

Communicates and ensures clear understanding of product and technology applications, building commitment and ownership towards achieving objectives and strategies.
Drives accountability in achieving milestones and ensures celebration of successes.
Ensures evaluations of key learnings from implementation and drives world-class results, behaviors, and best practices.
Oversees the R&D group by hiring, developing, training, leading, motivating, and enabling creative thinking of design and development.
High integrity leadership style aligned with the ability to create an open, transparent culture of trust and respect.
Ability to understand and drive business issues, utilize data in order to solve problems and make timely decisions that do not risk product quality or company reputation.
Outstanding project management, organizational skills, anticipate strategic problems and guide teams to a resolution with a team-oriented approach.
Customer facing technology leadership experience with engineering expertise in the medical device industry.
Commitment to promote thorough knowledge of industry, products, strategies, competition and customers.
Represent the company on technical visits, to technical groups with various customers, potential customers, and other organizations.
Achieves and supports organization's competitive position and profitability by formulating research and development programs impacting product success.
This is achieved by delivering products to the marketplace that are truly differentiated on a timely basis with the highest quality.
Collaborates with Business Units to discern and maintain competitive leadership of the Company’s design and development capabilities.
Continuously identifies process improvements and opportunities within internal processes through communications, programs and other activities as needed.
Oversees budgetary and performance controls and coordinates with all other departments that impact engineering.
Manages the intellectual property strategy with the customer.
Identifies, defines, and solves the most complex and strategic problems that have short-term and long-term impact on future products and technologies.
Conceives and develops solutions to engineering technology through the application of expert technology techniques, practices, and procedures.
Responsible for ensuring that engineering and innovation objectives are defined, measured, and performed.
Follows new product development process to include design reviews and testing resulting in launching products of the highest quality.
Ensures collaborative efforts within company to drive objectives, strategies and innovative thinking.
Stimulates continuing development of new ideas for technology or product enhancements.
Specifically champions agile thinking and agile product development in all relevant areas.
Innovative with a proven track record of creative products/designs and technology contributions to the customer and the company.
Understanding of medical device design, engineering and product development functions, processes and supporting best practice philosophies.
