Requirements

  • Current licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • BSN required; MSN required.
  • 5 years of Emergency or Adult Critical Care nursing experience.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible management experience, including department management, budget accountability, contract management, and staff supervision.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in good standing by the MA Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • ACLS required; PALS preferred.
  • CEN or CCRN preferred.
  • Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within six months of hire.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Exceptional written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professional relationships.
  • Experience with EPIC preferred.

  • Experience with Joint Commission survey preparedness preferred.
  • PALS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and clinical functions of the Emergency Department and Respiratory Therapy services.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality nursing care across assigned departments.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to establish and monitor standards of care, workflows, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with nursing standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and monitor processes to maintain quality patient care and adherence to standards.
  • Lead hospital response teams, including Code Blue, STEMI, stroke, and rapid response teams.
  • Chair the Critical Care Committee, coordinating initiatives across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Oversee operational plans to improve patient care, address concerns, and enhance the patient experience.
  • Responsible for hospital-wide throughput efficiencies, including monitoring and improving Length of Stay (LOS) and Left Without Being Seen (LWBS) rates.
  • Serve as the nursing representative in hospital space planning and decision-making forums.
  • Act as the primary nursing contact for Emergency Management planning, response activation, and coordination of clinical resources during events.
  • Serve as the clinical lead for providing required data to the Department of Public Health (DPH) for load balancing; participate in regional emergency preparedness meetings as requested.
  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, as well as The Joint Commission standards and organizational policies.
  • Lead and support risk-reduction initiatives that enhance patient and staff safety across departments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and reporting to support regulatory compliance and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze Laborlytics data for all departments to promote optimal staffing, productivity, and cost-efficiency.
  • Supervise staff, including hiring, workload allocation, training, performance evaluation, and corrective actions.
  • Assess qualifications and competency of personnel in collaboration with professional standards.
  • Manage resources, including budgeting, financial analysis, and position control.
  • Maintain oversight of contracts with providers and partners, including EMS.
  • Build strong relationships internally and externally to support departmental goals.
  • Promote teamwork and foster collaboration across departments.
  • Utilize data for quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and budget planning.
  • Identify and implement changes to improve care quality and patient outcomes.
  • Foster innovation and effectively manage organizational change.
  • Perform related duties as required during emergencies or as designated by hospital leadership.
